Who you are
- 4-7+ years of experience developing and executing social media strategies for a consumer brand, publisher, or media organization
- Proven experience creating high-performing short-form video content and growing social audiences organically
- Strong video production and editing skills
- Comfortable appearing on camera and representing a consumer-facing brand
- Exceptional storytelling, copywriting, and communication skills
- Strong understanding of YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Reddit, and emerging social platforms
- Experience using social media analytics and reporting tools to guide strategy and optimize performance
- Knowledge of SEO, content marketing, and emerging Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) best practices is a major asset
- Highly organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Passion for personal finance and helping Canadians make smarter financial decisions
What the job involves
- We're looking for a creative, strategic, and data-driven Social Media Strategist to lead the growth of Ratehub and MoneySense across social media and online communities
- This role will own the end-to-end social strategy—from content ideation and production to community management, audience growth, brand governance, and performance analysis
- The successful candidate will be responsible for building engaged communities, increasing brand awareness, growing followers and subscribers, and establishing Ratehub and MoneySense as Canada's leading destinations for trusted personal finance information and financial products
- You'll also play an important role in expanding the reach of our content across social platforms, forums, and emerging AI-powered search experiences
- Develop and execute comprehensive social media strategies across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Reddit, and other relevant social platforms and online communities
- Build and manage content calendars aligned with editorial priorities, marketing campaigns, product launches, seasonal events, and breaking financial news
- Identify trends, platform updates, and emerging content opportunities to maximize reach, engagement, and audience growth
- Continuously test and optimize content formats, messaging, posting cadence, and creative approaches using performance data
- Support the company's Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) strategy by amplifying authoritative content across social media, forums, and online communities
- Partner with SEO, editorial, and marketing teams to maximize the reach and discoverability of key articles, research, calculators, tools, and original analysis
- Own the end-to-end creation of social content, including ideation, scripting, filming, editing, publishing, and optimization
- Create engaging short- and long-form videos for Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels, TikTok, YouTube, and other platforms
- Serve as an on-camera spokesperson, creating authentic, entertaining, educational content that builds trust with Canadians
- Translate complex personal finance topics, including mortgages, credit cards, insurance, banking, investing, and loans, into compelling, easy-to-understand content
- Repurpose content across multiple channels to maximize reach and efficiency
- Manage day-to-day community engagement across all social channels
- Respond to comments, direct messages, and community questions in a timely, helpful, and brand-appropriate manner
- Foster meaningful conversations and build loyal communities around the Ratehub and MoneySense brands
- Actively monitor and participate in relevant online communities and forums, especially Reddit, provide insights, answer questions, and increase brand visibility while adhering to community best practices
- Monitor online conversations to identify emerging consumer trends, sentiment, and content opportunities
- Develop initiatives to grow followers, subscribers, and engaged communities across all social platforms
- Own the strategy for boosting high-performing organic content to maximize its reach and engagement
- Extend the lifespan of high-value content through strategic distribution and amplification across social and community channels
- Expand both brands' reach beyond owned channels through partnerships, creator collaborations, and community engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with creators, influencers, and brand partners to support Ratehub and MoneySense's credibility and growth
- Identify and negotiate collaborations that align with brand objectives and resonate with target audiences
- Own end-to-end campaign execution for influencer/ social partners — partner selection, creative briefs, approvals, performance tracking, and reporting
- Scout new partnership opportunities with publishers and complementary brands to diversify growth channels
- Collaborate with the performance marketing team to support development of creative assets for paid social campaigns across Meta, TikTok, Reddit, YouTube, and other relevant platforms
- Support creative testing by developing multiple content variations and optimizing assets based on campaign performance
- Develop and maintain social media brand guidelines, best practices, and creative standards for Ratehub and MoneySense
- Establish platform-specific standards for tone of voice, visual identity, content formats, community engagement, and creator presence
- Ensure consistency across all channels while evolving each brand's social presence to reflect changing audience preferences and platform trends
- Monitor social media performance using platform analytics and reporting tools
- Track and report on KPIs including reach, engagement, follower growth, subscriber growth, video views, referral traffic, conversions, and brand visibility
- Deliver regular insights and recommendations to improve content performance and audience growth
- Closely monitor and stay informed on competitor activity, industry trends, platform updates, and evolving social media best practices
- Partner with Content, PR, Email, Design, Product, and Paid Media teams to amplify campaigns and content across channels
- Ensure social media supports broader business objectives, including brand awareness, customer acquisition, and product engagement
- Collaborate with internal subject matter experts to ensure all content is accurate, timely, educational, and aligned with brand messaging
- Success in this role means building social channels that are trusted destinations for personal finance education and advice while driving measurable business impact. You will:
- Increase brand visibility and awareness for Ratehub and MoneySense
- Significantly grow followers, subscribers, and engaged online communities
- Create engaging content that not only educates Canadians but also encourages them to compare, research, and ultimately obtain financial products through Ratehub
- Expand the reach and authority of our content across social media, online forums, and AI-powered search experiences
Our take
Consumer activity has continued to shift from in-person to online in all categories, and RateHub recognised a need to make financial products accessible online, too.
RateHub allows users to compare prices and rates on financial products like mortgages, credit cards and insurance. With more than 2M monthly users, RateHub has launched its own in-house brokerage to aid with its mission to help Canadians make better financial decisions.
Despite FinTech being a busy space, RateHub reached a milestone of closing $10B in funded mortgages in October 2021. Since then, it has received significant investment that will allow it to continue building its momentum and accelerate growth both organically and through acquisitions.
