There is a lot of research being done in the pharmaceutical industry, with BenevolentAI saying there's a new research paper published every 30 seconds. But the company argues that this information is not being used in a smart way for the discovery and development of new drugs.
To tackle this problem, BenevolentAI uses AI to analyse biomedical information, from clinical trials data to academic papers. This is used to identify molecules that have failed in clinical trials and predict how these same compounds could be more efficient targeting other diseases.
This approach could dramatically accelerate the discovery of new drugs, which makes it a very valuable proposition. BenevolentAI has collaborated with large pharma companies like AstraZeneca and Janssen Pharmaceutica, and raised significant funding to power R&D.
