Role
Who you are
- Hands-on ML and Data Science background: hands-on modeling and training experience with PyTorch and Tensorflow, NumPy, scikit learn, CUDA (optional)
- Hands-on experience in end2end to ML development processes and MLOps, which includes knowledge with some theoretical foundations of NN implementation, inference, model fine-tuning/training, compute and memory architectures, experience with compute clusters and distributed systems in the cloud
- Programming languages: Python, Java or Scala, C++ (optional)
- Frameworks: Tensorflow, PyTorch, Spark, Airflow, KFP
- Platform: Terraform, GCP and GCP VertexAI, AWS and AWS AI platform
- Monitoring/Observability, experience with production support tools of internet scale systems
- (must) Back-end engineering: hands-on experience designing, implementing, deploying and supporting in production of complex systems based on the microservice architecture. Experience with performance, cost analysis and optimization
- Brings a breadth of knowledge of the MLOps ecosystem: vendors, technologies and algorithms; well-read on the SOTA
What the job involves
- The individual in this role will lead the ML Enablement Models team to bring the latest innovative MLOps solutions to modeling teams (Search, Ads, Perso, T&S) and enable them to experiment and iterate faster
- This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager
- Project lead, with a strong focus on execution
- Architect and software designer with a proven ability to drive initiative planning/strategy at macro (yearly/quarterly) and tactical (sprint-level milestones) scales
- Strong technologist with excitement and proven ability to build internet scale, production grade code as well as POCs and investigative work
- Thought leader and innovator, sets technical direction for the team and builds stakeholder alignment
- Hands-on software developer experienced with on call and production support
- Excited to represent the Models team and ML Enablement organizations in planning, project coordination, technical thought leadership
- Humble and supportive to mentor the team and raise the technical caliber
- Comfortable proposing and taking calculated risks
- Execution focused and meticulous attention to detail
- Great interpersonal skills to build working relationships across multiple organizational levels
- Strong and empathetic communicator with ability to influence and motivate

Our take
Created as an alternative to more corporate eCommerce sites, Etsy is a peer-to-peer (P2P) website where users buy and sell handmade crafts, vintage items, art and photography. The online marketplace works similarly to Amazon and eBay, only with an emphasis on unique items rather than mass-produced merchandise.
Since its IPO in 2015, it has managed to hold its own in an increasingly competitive eCommerce industry, including from Amazon's handmade section that launched in 2015. Further, by providing sellers with ownership over pricing and branding, the site is attractive for those wanting to set up a business on an established platform.
However, the seller-side of Etsy is not without problems. A hike in transaction fees and the introduction of mandatory marketing fees for artists with high turnovers created significant discontent amongst sellers. Despite this, Etsy continues to connect artists and consumers, attracting shoppers with its message of extraordinary, handmade and affordable products.
