The Citymapper app has made urban navigation much more straightforward for the millions of people using public transport in major cities. From humble beginnings, the company has gone from strength to strength, standing apart from Google Maps by covering all urban modes of transport including walking, cycling and driving, in addition to public transport - and usually providing live timings between any two locations in a supported city.
Citymapper provides its services to more than 50 million users across 100 cities, from the Americas, to Europe, to the Far East and Australia. Taking rather a large hit during and after the pandemic, when many cities were moving in and out of lockdowns, the company has nonetheless seen itself through, and has recently been acquired by New York-based transport tech giant Via. This acquisition will enable Citymapper to expand its audience, as well as make its technology available to transit agencies and cities
