Role
Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in accounts receivable; retail distribution channel experience required
- 2+ years of supervisory or management experience
- Large retail customer exposure (Target, Walmart, Petsmart) preferred
- Detail-oriented and highly organized
- Strong leadership and team-building skills
- Ability to drive efficiencies through process improvement
- Self-starter with a proven track record of multi-tasking abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
What the job involves
- The Accounting team is made up of smart, driven, dog-loving individuals who handle the core accounting responsibilities at BARK
- These include ensuring that our accounts are closed timely and that our general ledger is reconciled monthly in order to provide our internal partners accurate information to make business decisions; and to produce GAAP Financials that our shareholders and the investing community can rely on through our SEC filings
- As a member of the accounting team, you'll take ownership and become an expert in your accounting area, understanding the process end to end. You'll help us to implement the next generation of enhancements to the company’s accounting applications and processes
- We are a very collaborative team, working cross-functionally across BARK. What we take seriously: having fun, working hard, and playing with dogs (obviously)
- This role will be tasked with managing the accounts receivable staff, resolving late or skipped payments, updating financial records, and collecting the cash generated by processing all sales invoices
- The position will also oversee the day-to-day operations and strategic goals of the accounts receivable cycle through management, maintenance, implementation, and design of all accounts receivable business procedures and functions for the entire accounts receivable collection process
- In addition, this role will identify business process and systems improvements for the accounts receivable cycle.This position reports directly to the Director of Accounting
- Maintain accurate records and control reports
- Manage the accounts receivable process, including invoicing, payment collection, and credit management
- Ensure accurate and timely posting of payments to customer accounts
- Supervise and train the AR team to achieve departmental goals
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members
- Communicate with clients to resolve billing disputes, chargebacks and ensure timely payments
- Maintain positive relationships with customers while enforcing payment terms
- Develop and enforce AR policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy
- Prepare regular AR reports, including aging summaries, collection forecasts, DSO and performance metrics
- Analyze AR trends and provide recommendations to improve cash flow and reduce overdue accounts
- Work cross-functionally with all internal Bark teams, in order to accurately capture the activities of the business in accordance with U.S. GAAP, and support Bark's growth and success
- Continuously explore and analyze emerging AI technologies and trends in Accounts Receivable, empowering BARK to innovate boldly and maintain a strong competitive edge in the marketplace

The number of subscription model services has risen substantially over nearly a decade, and the hassle-free, customizable model makes it a smart fit for pet services. BARK, previously BarkBox, is a subscription company working with retail giants like Amazon, Target, and PetSmart to leverage this trend, delivering monthly boxes of dog products to pet owners.
The recession-resistant nature of the pet sector has made BARK an attractive investment prospect. However, numerous like-for-like US competitors have enjoyed the same market benefits, and whilst BARK's big-name retail partnerships are likely to keep it ahead, at some point it may need to consider more decisive ways of distinguishing themselves from competitors.
However, the company has has leveraged these advantages into material gains. Further, after a minor rebrand and the launch of BARK food, its own dog food brand, they seem well-placed to continue ahead of the pack. The company also launched two marketing email campaigns in January 2023 for its lately Durable Dental Chew product launch and launched SMS in July 2022; these have been tangible efforts to keep its subscribers long term.
