Role
Who you are
- The ideal candidate is a design professional with 3-5 years of experience with strength in creating high quality designs, user experience, and problem solving
- You’re entrepreneurial. You get excited about building from scratch, can pitch (and establish support) for ideas across all levels of the organization
- You’re efficient. You focus on outcomes and take a lean approach to achieving them at pace, while being thoughtful about overcoming challenges and roadblocks
- You have excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to turn product requirements, user research, usability feedback, and design aesthetics into easy-to-use solutions
- You are an expert in Figma and can maintain and create documentation, while maintaining the design system
- You have an enthusiasm for software and consumer products — both in using them and in understanding their importance in our collective futures
What the job involves
- In this role, you will support the Product Team and Engineering Team in shaping the product vision for 5Mins
- You will work closely with a cross-functional team to leverage best practices in product design to build design assets for both the 5Mins mobile app and web app
- Design future-defining products. Help drive the vision and execution for product roadmaps, both short term and long-term. Shape the user experience, ideate new features, and facilitate the design process
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of the 5Mins design system. Provide feedback and help elevate the design system by refining existing patterns, bringing new ones, and improving design documentation
- Get to know 5Mins customers and uncover their needs by deeply understanding how our customers are interacting with, and getting value from our product

Our take
The UK is suffering a growing workplace skills gap. Many are hoping the answer can come in the form of ‘microcredentials’ - highly specific short form skills training that can be easily delivered and digested in the workplace. We’re seeing this already in the breakdown of post-16 education into micro-learning modules, but it’s a format that’s yet to be carried over into businesses. 5Mins is looking to change that.
5Mins describes itself as a TikTok for workplace learning, with a current roster of over 12,000 short-form educational videos. It’s gamified with leaderboards and a social feed. Plus, it’s AI-driven to deliver relevant daily content. In sum, it’s carrying over the tried-and-tested high engagement model of social media to the employment sector, where demand for this content is growing.
Successful giants like Google, Apple, and Pixar have all fostered a strong learning culture, with brands like Cisco making the cultural shift to follow suit. It’s easier than, and for many organisations preferable to, rehiring or redeploying their workforce. Plus, it offers a strong employee incentive that keeps businesses competitive in a hot labour market. So the time is right for 5Mins, and with a strong model and an impressive content library it could see strong demand.
