- BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional experience
- 10+ years of experience designing, implementing, and debugging large-scale, distributed cloud-based solutions
- Experience with Lean product development and Agile frameworks (e.g., Scrum, Kanban)
- Work effectively with LLM’s, understand agent concepts and related technologies (e.g. MCP servers)
- Strong understanding of SOLID design principles and software design patterns
- Strong understanding of SQL, and familiarity with relational databases such as Postgres or MySQL
- Excellent teamwork, documentation, and communication skills
- Demonstrated experience leveraging AI tools and technologies to improve workflows, enhance decision-making, or drive innovation
Desirable
- Experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems
- Experience designing and building standards-based authentication and authorization systems (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML)
- Experience designing and building scalable APIs
- Experience with asynchronous messaging platforms like Kafka and AWS SQS
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud Platform)
- Experience with Ruby on Rails (or equivalent), NodeJS and NextJS
- Experience with React, Bootstrap, Tailwind, and modern frontend technologies
- Experience deploying applications with Kubernetes

- As part of our Engineering team, you’ll play a pivotal role in designing and scaling the technology behind a platform trusted by hundreds of thousands of users nationwide

- Design and implement scalable applications using modern web application frameworks (e.g., Rails, React, NestJS, NextJS)
- Drive technology initiatives that empower and uplift the platform that 8am’s products are built on. (e.g., Common Identity, Single Sign-On)
- Define, implement, and evolve a backend architecture that enables scalable, sustainable business growth
- Proactively identify and implement solutions to enhance application performance, scalability, and maintainability
- Partner with technical and non-technical stakeholders to gather requirements, propose solutions, and align with business goals
- Collaborate with product teams to assess trade-offs, identify risks, and align improvements with business objectives
- Mentor and coach software engineers, fostering professional growth within the team
- Provide guidance and expertise in software architecture, design patterns, and best practices to the broader engineering organization
- Lead team ceremonies, including sprint planning, grooming, and retrospectives, ensuring effective communication and coordination
- Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to bring innovation to the team
