Role
Who you are
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 4 years in a leadership or management role
- Strong communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Extensive backend development experience, with a solid understanding of frontend technologies
- Strong expertise in relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL
- Hands-on experience with AWS or other cloud platforms, with a deep understanding of cloud infrastructure and services
- A strong commitment to implementing and advocating for security best practices in software design, development, and deployment

- You will lead a team of talented engineers in planning, architecting, and building scalable systems that meet current demands and align with our long-term technical vision
- As a leader, you’ll foster a culture of innovation, creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement, empowering your team to develop solutions to complex challenges
- Think through high-level technical challenges and mentor the team to explore the problem space and develop effective solutions
- Help shape and prioritize the team’s roadmap, balancing exciting new features with the need to tackle technical debt
- Identify potential risks and dependencies early, collaborating with the team to develop thoughtful solutions that keep projects on schedule and maintain high-quality outcomes
- Balance short-term delivery goals with long-term technical strategy, ensuring alignment with the company’s overall architecture and growth
- Champion agile practices and encourage early proof-of-concepts (POCs) while leading the development of applications from inception through multiple iterations, collaborating closely with product and design teams
- Connect engineering work to larger business objectives, helping the team understand its broader impact
- Collaborate with other Engineering Managers to address organizational challenges, improve processes, and enhance engineering culture
- Foster an environment where engineers can grow professionally, develop their skills, and feel supported in their career paths
- Inspire a culture of learning by encouraging growth mindsets and providing opportunities for training and development
- A consumer-facing mobile and web application designed to engage users and promote behavior change for improved weight management and overall health
- An internal platform for doctors and coaches, enabling our team to deliver personalized care efficiently to the right members at the right time
- A robust, microservices-based internal framework that integrates seamlessly with external healthcare and non-healthcare data sources, ensuring reliable and scalable data connectivity
Our take
Obesity affects four in ten Americans, but treatment has long been overlooked, often categorized as a lifestyle problem rather than a healthcare issue. Calibrate is changing that by offering a combination of cutting-edge medication and physiological training to help people make lasting changes to their weight.
The medications used by Calibrate, including GLP-1 drugs, have shown strong results in clinical trials. When combined with sustainable lifestyle changes, its program helps patients achieve lasting weight loss. However, while these medications show promise, long-term safety and effectiveness still require further study, especially since continued use is necessary to prevent weight regain.
Despite these concerns, Calibrate's approach has helped over 20,000 people, and many have sustained health improvements well beyond the first year. It has faced some challenges, including negative press and a round of layoffs, but with funding and positive attention around next-gen weight loss drugs, the company continues to be a leader in the field.
