Role
Who you are
- Are truly motivated by shipping products that users care about
- Have proven experience as a staff engineer, technical lead or architect, with a track record of designing and implementing successful, large-scale technical systems
- Have a strong technical background in software development and system design, preferably with experience in our stack - AWS (specifically CDK, Lambda, SQS/SNS, Fargate), Go, Postgres, TypeScript, React, GraphQL
- Have strong problem-solving skills and are excited to navigate complex technical challenges
- Have excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Have a collaborative and team-oriented mindset, with the ability to lead and mentor other engineers
- Can communicate ideas with well written proposals and documentation, understanding how this can be a huge multiplier of your impact
Desirable
- Have taken a product from inception through to product market fit. If you haven’t had this exact experience, you’ll be able to share examples of building things from scratch and have clear thoughts about how that experience would apply here
- Have experience designing SDKs / programming languages
What the job involves
- We're looking for a Staff Product Engineer to join our team and play a vital role shaping our product
- This is an incredible opportunity to join a business at one of the most exciting times - helping us build out our minimum lovable product and getting it in the hands of early customers
- You’ll work closely with the founders and supercharge our engineering team to build a world-class product
- By joining this early you’ll be involved in making key technical decisions about how we build our platform and laying the foundations for the future
- As a Staff Product Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in making technical decisions about how we continue to build the product, considering the complexities of how different parts of the product fit together
- You’ll be customer-obsessed and enjoy getting to know the pain points and preoccupations of our customers to translate these into great solutions
- Lead the design and development of the technical architecture for our product, considering factors such as scalability, security, and performance
- Consider the whole technical landscape of the product, how everything fits together, and try to anticipate problems before they happen
- Distill complex technical and product problems down to simple, elegant and deliverable steps
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, designers and founders, to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Drive the evaluation and selection of appropriate technologies, frameworks, and tools to support the product roadmap
- Define and encourage coding standards, best practices, and development processes to maintain a high level of code quality
- Mentor and guide more junior engineers, providing technical leadership, code reviews, and knowledge sharing to foster skill development
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement effective solutions
- Write technical documents for new product features

Although developer tools offer a vast range of possibilities, it is still difficult for businesses to build quality software. Doing so requires high level of commitment and complex engineering work that can often be time-consuming and costly.
By providing the majority of the code and offering simple solutions, Keel aims to tackle this problem for businesses to create an easier, more streamlined process.
