What the job involves

By getting deep in the problem and opportunity statements our restaurant merchants face, you will help develop & execute the strategy to grow their first party business – expanding our product portfolio with new offerings as well as driving innovation in our go-to-market strategy including distribution channels, pricing models & product positioning
You will sit on the Platform Strategy & Ops team, manage a team of individual contributors and report into the Head of the Restaurant Platform Vertical who is one skip-level from our President & COO
Lead. You will drive innovation for our first party platform business, helping us determine new products to service our merchant’s needs and ways to supercharge adoption of those products through innovation in distribution, pricing and product positioning
Build. You will own and build new products and business models that bring value to our merchant base
Strategize. You will help develop the optimal strategy and prioritization to grow for our Restaurant Platform business. You will craft quarterly and annual plans that push our business forward and are aligned with our product and go to market capabilities. You will help these teams identify opportunities for enhancing our existing product offering
Collaborate. You will advocate internally and externally for solutions that will help our merchants grow their businesses. In addition to working with partners in the restaurant tech ecosystem, you’ll work with a highly cross-functional internal team, including sales, account management, operations, product, marketing, analytics and finance to expand our product portfolio
Analyze. You’ll assess the growth and profitability impacts of your decisions, and iterate based on data
Learn. You will be immersed in our digital ordering and first party product portfolio. You will learn about the restaurant tech ecosystem, deeply understand our merchant’s needs and the best ways to go to market and win

Our take

DoorDash was an early entrant into the last-mile restaurant delivery business, which is now crowded with the likes of Uber Eats, Postmates and GrubHub. They offer restaurants an end-to-end delivery platform, generating new business and access to a network of delivery drivers.

To differentiate itself in the market, DoorDash focused on areas with fewer competitors and found success in this untapped market. Other factors, such as the company's targeting of restaurants which many not typically offer a delivery service, also contribute to its profitability. The company made its stock market debut in 2020 with one of the biggest IPOs of the year.

However, in light of increasing discontent around DoorDash's commission structure from restaurants, competition remains fierce. The business recently responded by publishing a transparent fee structure, but the number of options open to restaurants means DoorDash must fight to keep its customers loyal. Despite this, by focusing on consumer retention, logistics and technology, the company is likely able to maintain its existing growth and revenue.
