What the job involves
- We are looking for a Product Manager (PM) to lead the 3rd Product Squad we’re currently building (composed of 3 developers, 1 product analyst, and 1 product designer)
- We love to create and build products, we share ownership among the team, and we own from inception to shipping and monitoring of the impact
- We’re looking for a talented, optimistic and humane individual, who can set the bar high but doesn’t take themselves too seriously
- ✅ We value user empathy: We speak to organizers every week to learn about their experiences with Shotgun, and we modify the product to fit their needs
- ✅ We make data-informed decisions: We dig deep into our data to understand how our product is used and how to improve it
- ✅ We expect PM to challenge, experiment, build, fail, iterate, succeed (and then do it again)
- Align product initiatives with company strategy: Prioritisation is key, from the biggest roadmap projects to the smallest bug fixes
- Get to know our users and our market: Conduct a LOT of user interviews with users, event organizers & artists all over the world and never-ending competitive benchmarks
- Dig into data: Understand how the product is being used, make data-informed decisions, and monitor the impact of your team’s work
- Build and market our products: You’ll need to become an expert in specifications, design, QA, feature release, and product marketing
- Work closely with internal stakeholders: You won’t be able to do your job without support, ops, sales, marketing, account managers…
- Animate a squad: empowered teams get shit done. Your role is, first and foremost, to empower your team

Our take
If you're organising an event, there's no shortage of ticket companies offering to manage booking and boost sales. However, the industry overall is somewhat outdated, with complicated interfaces putting off both organisers and customers. Founded in 2014, Shotgun is an attempt to redress this with intuitive software and a ticketing marketplace that meets the changing needs of modern event organisers and their fans.
Competing against larger players such as Dice and Resident Advisor, Shotgun stands out with its laser focus on the 18-25 year old event-going market. Catering to a crowd used to on-demand music services with expectations of lower costs and more exciting shows (research shows younger event-goers are far more likely to leave early if they're unhappy), Shotgun has invested heavily in social features and its mobile app experience to keep fans engaged.
So far, it has experienced success - it quickly gained several hundred organisers in about 30 cities for its platform and it is continuing to grow, with over 100,000 regular users of its app. As other ticketing services struggle to capture the younger party crowd, Shotgun has an early lead in this space that it should be able to continue to build on.
