Role
Who you are
- You're a Software Engineer with four or more years of experience in JavaScript and React/Preact, while knowledge of Typescript and different frameworks is a big plus
- You recognize yourself in the Adyen Formula: being open-minded, having a proactive attitude, and always trying to make things work while keeping the bigger picture in mind
- You actively share your knowledge and enthusiasm to develop yourself and your team and are comfortable with asking for and receiving constructive feedback
- You independently gather technical requirements and create a plan to execute those requirements
- You're a collaborative team player; you like connecting and communicating with your team members and other stakeholders to achieve the best solution possible
- Experience working on an SDK or library is a plus
What the job involves
- One of our main goals here at Adyen is to build the most customer-focused financial technology platform in the world
- We want to enable peer-to-peer marketplaces, on-demand services, crowdfunding platforms, and other platform business models to maximize their competitive advantage through integrated financial products and services
- To achieve this goal, we offer our own Checkout SDK to empower merchants of all sizes to take advantage of our product offering, with little to no technical investment needed from their side
- Our Checkout teams ensure that our merchants and their customers have a seamless experience every time, leveraging our broad offering of payment methods and other features to continue scaling their businesses
- You will help to design, build and release our new components
- You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of development. This includes communicating with stakeholders (product owners, product designers, account managers, merchants, e.g.), testing, iterating purposefully, and monitoring the impact of your projects
- You will work on new features and focus on improving the developer experience of our solutions by working closely with our product team and supporting our operational teams and platforms
- You will have the freedom to identify and improve parts of the product to make it more consistent, robust, and scalable
Our take
Adyen has been one of the most successful businesses in Europe over the last decade. When it went public in 2018 at a valuation of €7bn, it raised over €1bn and its share price popped on the first day, resulting in a valuation of €14bn. Its valuation has continued to climb by the billions.
Adyen competes with large players like PayPal, as well as outsized startups like Stripe, to power payments and provide other infrastructure to conduct digital transactions. Disrupters in the field have been buoyed by a strong rise in eCommerce activity, where some or all of a transaction by a customer is made either online or by mobile.
Adyen has been one of the companies riding the wave by helping to reduce the friction between a company choosing to take payments online, and actually being able to do it. That can take multiple steps and agreements across numerous countries — Adyen’s pitch is that it essentially handles all of it in the backend as a service for its users. Notable partners have included Autocanteen, a touchless self-checkout solution for the hospitality industry, and BILL, a small business-focused fintech platform.
