Role
Who you are
- 6+ years of accounting experience at a quickly evolving company
- Accurate, detailed, and a love for large datasets
- Experience writing complex SQL queries for data retrieval and manipulation
- Technical project management experience
- US GAAP and SOX controls expertise and ability to operationalize accounting guidance into policy
- Curious and enthusiastic - not afraid to ask probing questions and challenge existing processes, to improve processes and own projects, and to automate manual workflows
- Bachelor's degree with a major or emphasis in Accounting or related field from an accredited college or university
What the job involves
- Our broadcasters are the backbone to the Twitch community
- Your primary role is to help scale our monetization efforts and ensure accounting requirements are met for any newly launched product
- We are looking for someone to lead the new product integration (NPI) efforts in Accounting by standardizing processes, creating clear lines of communication, and implementing best practices
- You will report to the Senior Manager of RevPay Accounting
- Manage new product integration related to creator earnings by working with product and engineering teams to communicate and test accounting requirements
- Be the leader of the NPI process for all of Controllership and ensure all impacted parties are informed of upcoming integrations
- Validate new products through querying integration tables and working with Engineering to understand data flows and structure
- Perform operating procedures, internal controls and workflows to increase the efficiency of new lines of business following SOX controls
- Take on ad-hoc requests and own projects in addition to your daily responsibilities
Our take
Twitch is the world's leading video platform for gamers, allowing users to livestream gaming sessions and curate a dedicated community for their content. By dedicating the platform to gaming alone, it has amassed a loyal following of fans, and been able to launch its Partner Program where streamers can monetize their livestreams, incorporate corporate partnerships, and even attend TwitchCon, a convention where dedicated gamers can socialize.
Twitch's acquisition by Amazon in 2014 saw its viewers double in a year, bringing the platform to a wider audience. However, with YouTube streaming popularity on the rise, it has big competition to contend with, as some popular streamers prefer going live on the video giant. Interestingly, a recent move by the platform was to enable its partner streamers to make live content on other platforms - previously inhibited by its exclusivity clause - which may combat the possibility of losing streamers permanently to YouTube.
In 2022, Twitch had to contend with backlash for its proposal to cut creator income by reducing their cut of subscription earnings. However, with the plan only affecting a minute number of creators, the controversy appears to have died down. Needless to say, Twitch is for now entirely comfortable in the market - with possible plans to extend past gaming bringing the chance to generate more popularity yet.
