Role
Who you are
- Experience with digital assets, crypto, and blockchain technologies
- SQL knowledge and experience with GraphQL
- Skills of data scraping and interaction with internal API of websites
- Experience with databases and AWS or GCP data solutions
- Experience with ETL data pipelines
- The ability to find a solution to even the most difficult issues and dig deep
Desirable
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, and understanding of EVM and smart contracts
- Experience in Business Intelligence products such as Google Data Studio
- Experience in building stable connectors using REST and WebSocket API
- Familiarity with Unix/Linux operating systems, general command-line knowledge, and source control software
What the job involves
- The Block Research is looking for a passionate individual to join our 25-person research team
- As a data analyst on our Research team, you will help us create infrastructure for our existing and future data products, as well as automate insights search that our team uses on a daily basis
- You will work directly with the Research Lead of Data, Simon Cousaert, and the existing data team
- In addition, you will further refine your already substantial knowledge about the digital assets landscape
- By leveraging our strong industry network and wide reach within the digital assets community, you will be able to build your own personal brand in the relevant tech circles
- Having access to our expertise and state-of-the-art blockchain APIs, you will be able to use your technical skills to create a scalable infrastructure that is in high demand by blockchain projects and crypto funds globally

- Build parsers for various social media and other sources of alternative data
- Index blockchains and write SQL/GraphQL queries
- Work with our engineering team to build scalable data infrastructure
- Support the editorial and research team in complex data pulls
- Prepare data for adding new features to The Block’s Data Dashboard

The Block stands out for the pedigree of journalists it employs - like former Business Insider journalist Frank Chaparro who hosts The Block’s weekly podcast, ‘The Scoop’, or Editor-in-Chief Sarah Kopit, a former editor at Bloomberg - and has developed a reputation for focused and in-depth analysis and news.
In 2022, it was revealed that The Block had received significant funding from the FTX cryptocurrency exchange, badly undermining the company's independence and damaging its reputation. This led to The Block's CEO stepping down and being replaced and an acquisition by Foresight Ventures. Since this shake-up, The Block has experienced a 40% growth in pageviews and a 33% rise in unique users, indicating that faith has been restored in the publication.
