Role
Who you are
- 5+ years relevant work experience in Analytics, Data Science or Software Engineering
- Proven track record providing thought leadership to your team or organization
- Fluency in SQL
- Proficient programming skills in Python, R, or a similar scripting language
- Experience in distributed data processing systems and framework (Hive, Redshift, Presto, Snowflake, Spark, etc)
- Firm knowledge around statistical methods and experiment design
- Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills
- Excellent technical communication and relationship-building skills
- A growth mindset and experience investing in the learning, development, belonging, and impact of your peers
What the job involves
- We’re looking for experienced data scientists to work with our core product teams, who will take ownership of the team’s data projects and serve as a strategic partner to Product, Engineering, Design, User Research, and Marketing
- Teams we’re currently hiring for:
- AI Experiences: our AI team is responsible for building and monetizing awesome products/features that are powered by AI
- In this role, you will play a key role in helping define Figma’s AI strategy
- The ideal candidate is someone who has a strong track record of using data to influence product strategy and goal achievement, has experience developing or collaborating with engineers on deploying AI/ML powered products, and enjoys creative problem solving in a nascent problem area
- Design Tools: this team works on the heart and soul of our core product and has set a new standard for what’s possible on the web
- Our users spend hours in the Editor each day brainstorming, iterating on designs, crafting prototypes, and getting feedback at all stages of the creative process
- The ideal data science partner for this team will possess a high degree of creativity and incredible product intuition, allowing them to dive deep into our product to bring clarity around the experience of our most advanced users
- Monetization: as a Data Scientist on the Monetization team, this role will support critical pathways for the business that help our users identify and purchase the right plan for their use cases
- You will partner closely with product and engineering to identify new opportunities to reduce friction and better communicate the value of our products
- The ideal candidate is someone who loves diving into the details and putting themselves in the shoes of our customers
- This role will heavily leverage experimentation and forecasting to understand the impact of our product initiatives
- Leverage various data science methods such as machine learning, statistical modeling, and causal inference to understand user behavior and optimize the product experience
- Design and evaluate experiments to measure improvements to UI and algorithms
- Generate ideas to creatively leverage data for shaping future product roadmaps
- Drive democratization of data through creation of new datasets and tooling
- Design and surface metrics to guide decision making
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, Engineering, Research, Design, Sales, and Marketing
Our take
Figma is a web-based design platform that helps cross-functional teams of designers, project managers, and developers easily collaborate on product design projects. Its standout feature, Multiplayer mode, is like Google Docs for design, letting team members collaborate in real-time on project files that are hosted in the cloud.
Founded in 2012, Figma quickly established itself among its competitors in the sector and, in 2024, achieved a valuation of $12.5 billion after a large funding round backed by the likes of General Catalyst and Andreessen Horowitz. However, its recent focus on AI tools has had mixed results; Figma's Make Design tool, which generates apps using AI, was taken off the market soon after launch.
Nevertheless, thousands of industry-leading companies such as Airbnb, Dropbox, GitHub and Microsoft use Figma to scale their design efforts easily across distributed teams. A 2025 IPO is on the cards too, and Figma has the customer base and market trust to pull it off.
