Who you are
- Hold (or are on track to hold) a Bachelor's or Masters degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other related degree. Candidates with alternative degrees will also be considered if they have relevant experience
Desirable
- Knowledge of analog/digital circuit design and power distribution fundamentals
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB tools (Cadence, Altium, or Mentor)
- Familiarity with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, DDR, or Ethernet
- Skilled in lab testing, communication, and teamwork
What the job involves
- Join our world-class Server Design team developing next-generation AI infrastructure for hyperscale data centers.
- As a new college graduate in Electrical or Computer Engineering, you will contribute to the design and development of cutting-edge AI servers and rack-level power distribution systems.
- You’ll work alongside experienced engineers across electrical, mechanical, thermal, and validation disciplines to deliver industry leading high-performance, power-efficient designs that scale to meet the demands of modern AI workloads!
- Help design, review, and bring up complex server and rack-level boards, including high-speed signaling and power delivery
- Support component selection, SI/PI analysis, and system-level integration to ensure quality and reliability
- Collaborate with mechanical, thermal, and manufacturing teams to achieve optimized, scalable, and testable designs
- Perform lab validation and debug using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other electrical test tools
- Document and share design updates, validation results, and process improvements
Our take
The hardware required to train AI models comes at a high cost, both financially and environmentally, producing millions of dollars in expenses and hundreds of tons of greenhouse gases. In response, Graphcore develops accelerator chips designed to expedite AI system training while significantly reducing power consumption.
AI accelerators like those crafted by Graphcore specialise in enhancing specific AI applications, such as artificial neural networks, deep learning, and machine learning. Utilising multicore designs and prioritising low-precision arithmetic or in-memory computing, these accelerators elevate the performance of large AI algorithms, achieving breakthrough results in natural language processing and computer vision.
Graphcore has ambitious plans to create an AI supercomputer, aiming to be one of the most powerful in its class. However, progress on this has extended beyond its planned 2024 debut, and the company was purchased by Softbank later that year. Though the acquisition by the Japanese multinational lowered Graphcore's valuation and highlighted structural problems in the local financing of UK tech pioneers, the buyout will undoubtedly aid the company in its ambitions to shape the future of AI computing.
