Global Head of Analysis, TransitionZero

• A minimum of 10 years of proven experience as an investment-grade analyst, producing high-impact analysis to support low-income countries with the economic and financial risks and opportunities associated with the energy transition
• Proven experience successfully managing a remote team with a minimum headcount of 5 direct reports
• Strong relationship-building skills and proven experience working with a variety of stakeholders, particularly in low-income countries
• Ability to think strategically and solve complex problems associated with the political and socioeconomic implications of the energy transition
• Ability to work effectively under pressure, meet tight deadlines and prioritise tasks based on team and company objectives
• Able to take ownership of research priorities/research design decisions. This includes having effective short-term planning and road mapping (~sprint/weeks) and strong organisational skills
• Ability to communicate (orally and in writing) energy transition analysis in an accessible and sensitive way that resonates with policymakers and investors in low-income countries
• The ability to interpret policies supports the validation of TransitionZero’s models, notably FEO and CAT

Desirable

• In this regard, the in-country analysts are gatekeepers for our outputs, engagements and communications in their region to ensure they are politically sensitive, relevant, timely and, ultimately, impactful. This is based on the notion that locals are best placed to understand what is needed to maximise impact in their country
• While this role will initially focus on the power sector in low-income countries, there is an expectation that our data platform, Future Energy Outlook or FEO, will move to other sectors to cover all-energy. The FEO platform utilises high-fidelity data to provide users with accessible and customisable business-as-usual, least-cost and climate-constrained scenarios. Therefore, subject to additional funding, this role will require working with our technology and product teams to develop model methodologies beyond the power sector for 2024 onwards

• Short-Term Goals for Global Head of Analysis (6 months after joining):
• Become familiar with our modus operandi, theory of change and the company’s outcomes and objectives
• Revise the company's outcomes and objectives, then create an analysis team strategy and production schedule to support these goals
• Develop an annual budget and resource plan for the analysis team to implement the team strategy and production schedule
• Understand our technology and product roadmaps to inform wireframe user flows and identify product features needed to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the analysis team
• Build strong relationships with the CEO, CTO, Head of Operations, Head of Product, People and Culture Manager and members of the analysis team
• Work with the CEO, CTO and Head of Product to expand our modelling methodology beyond electricity to an all-energy system model
• Long-Term Goals for [ROLE] (12 months after joining):
• Evaluate and refine the analysis team strategy and production schedule, making necessary adjustments based on the company's evolving objectives
• Successfully implement the budget and resource plan, while making necessary adjustments based on learnings
• Consistently contribute feedback to the technology and product roadmaps, aiming to drive the development of innovative features to enhance the productivity of the analysis team
• Foster relationships with key stakeholders across the company, positioning the analysis team as a vital resource and collaborator for cross-functional initiatives
• Support the CEO with any additional fundraising associated with implementing an expanded modelling methodology to encompass the entire energy system
• Implement training and development programs to upskill the analysis team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth
• Management and Fundraising (35%):
• Managing an existing team of 2 analysts and 1 consultant, with a 23/24 budget to hire another 5 analysts and funder interest to increase headcount to around 10-15
• Communicating and collaborating with technology and product teams to ensure your team’s objectives and priorities are adequately reflected in technology and product roadmaps
• Supporting a collaborative team culture by working with our people manager to implement intentional efforts to ensure remote team members feel part of the wider the company
• Working with the CEO and head of operations to support fundraising efforts
• Model Development and Validation (10%):
• Support with the validation model results for Future Energy Outlook (FEO) to ensure the outputs reflect market and regulatory realities facing in-country analysts
• Work with technology and product teams to expand FEO beyond the power sector and do so in a way which helps support high-impact analysis
• Thought Leadership (15%):
• Provide thought leadership on emerging themes that align with the company’s outcomes and objectives, including:
• Fossil fuel refinancing and climate finance to support more climate-aligned power development planning in low-income countries
• Unblocking regulatory and institutional barriers preventing the deployment of bulk renewables (wind and utility-scale solar), dispatch clean energy (nuclear) and enabling technologies (battery storage, demand response)
• Energy transition risks and opportunities beyond the power sector, particularly for those low-income countries who have fossil fuel reserves
• Writing (20%):
• Produce politically-savvy, data-centric and solutions-oriented outputs (slide decks and insight blogs) which show how low-income countries can manage the risks and opportunities associated with the energy transition without undermining their wider development priorities (i.e. economic growth, lower electricity prices, create more jobs, increase energy security)
• Engagement (20%):
• Produce slide decks and give presentations to support policymakers, investors and strategic partners
