Who you are

4+ years of professional experience as a software engineer, data engineer, or ML engineer, with a track record of delivering impactful technical solutions
Strong programming skills in Python
Knowledge of data pipeline, orchestration and workflow management tools
Ability to balance rapid experimentation with robust engineering principles
Strong collaboration skills, able to operate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Experience in NLP, large-scale data discovery, or LLM tooling

What the job involves

The Data Team at ExTrac is growing rapidly and driving forward innovative approaches to data curation, collection, storage, and application. Embedding dedicated deeper technical expertise to be tasked by the Data Team will significantly accelerate development, enabling faster iteration and greater autonomy in pushing novel ideas forward
Prototype & Build: Develop proof-of-concepts for innovative data and ML solutions, then lead the transition from prototype to production
Collaborate Across Teams: Partner with Engineering and ML teams to design and maintain robust, scalable infrastructure and pipelines
Bridge R&D and Production: Dedicate focused time to research, technical exploration, and upskilling the Data Team; embed with Engineering when experimental work moves toward deployment
Innovate: Explore and experiment with Data Team-driven concepts such as automating data discovery, correlating datasets to detect indicators and warnings, and improving insight generation
Drive Best Practices: Champion clean, maintainable, and well-documented workflows, reproducible pipelines, automated data quality checks, and efficient handover from experimentation to engineering
Provide Technical Depth: Serve as the technical link between the Data Team and Engineering, ensuring that experimental insights are accurately conveyed and implemented
Support Special Projects: Execute “one-shot” data collections, design advanced labelling workflows (e.g., multi-step Jupyter-based annotation, LLM-as-a-judge), and contribute technical expertise to feature implementations that originate from data-driven experimentation
