Our take
Luxury fashion has taken well to eCommerce, but it can be difficult for a brand to stand out in the crowded online market. SSENSE, a Montreal-based luxury fashion retailer, manages this with a history of projects and services pushing the boundaries of the industry.
The company’s driving vision is to be a “cultural protagonist”. That means collaborating with brands large and small, lavishly produced cultural events, and a now-iconic photography style for its catalogue.
While the retailers has made a real name for itself in North America and Europe, its next phase will be more complex than simple geographic expansion. Following a founder-led buyout approval in early 2026 that brough the company out of bankruptcy, SSENSE is now navigating a period of financial reset and operational restructuring while maintaining its cultural edge.
As it stabilizes and looks to future growth, the business will not only need to localize its offering to compete with emerging players in markets like China, but also rebuilt momentum and investor confidence after a turbulent chapter.
