Role
Who you are
- Have 5+ years developing and deploying web applications, with a proven track record of shipping code
- Are familiar with Node.js and TypeScript and can write scalable services and APIs using technologies like Express.js and MongoDB
- Can debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack
- Proven experience building complex web systems
- Experience with testing frameworks (e.g. Jest, Mocha, Playwright, Cypress)
- Are comfortable working in an agile, safe-to-fail, environment
What the job involves
- The Access Control team at Webflow is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who is experienced with scaling distributed systems and values building secure software that also has a great user experience
- The Access Control team is responsible for building and maintaining the Roles & Permissions framework used by all of Engineering to make sure the right users have access to the right resources throughout the webflow.com application
- The team is also responsible for building and maintaining features that enable customers to define access control control policies for their own workspaces
- Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager
- Architect, design, and implement scalable multi-tenant backend services and APIs
- Work on technologies such as Node.js, Javascript/Typescript, MongoDB, GraphQL, Apollo, Amazon Web Services EC2, S3, Lambdas, Kafka, and more
- Demonstrable solid experience and deep expertise in multiple technical domains
- Contribute to building and executing on functional strategy
- Lead projects that directly contribute to team and engineering organization's deliverables
- Produce and elevate the quality of maintainable, tested, performant, and scalable code
- Author, collaborate on, and evaluate design documents
- Influence technical designs and team-level prioritization as well as participate in technical solutions
- Collaborate with product managers and designers in an autonomous, supportive team environment
- Mentor junior engineering in technical skills and Webflow culture
- Participate in engineering citizenship activities such as co-authoring engineering blogs, strengthening and improving our hiring processes, and leading internal hackathon teams
- In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, at Webflow we will support you in identifying where your interests and development opportunities lie and we'll help you incorporate them into your role
Our take
No-code development systems allow users to create and publish the kind of output that was once only possible with the help of a team of developers. Webflow is one such platform that allows non-developers to create professional websites without knowing any code. It joins others such as Pantheon, Weebly, Squarespace, and Wix in a hotly-contested low-code development market. While competition is high, so too is demand, with low-code platforms accounting for more than 65% of application development activity in 2024.
The popularity of platforms such as Webflow is perhaps not surprising, as low-code development is usually cheaper for companies to implement and reduces time to market. Webflow has been used by over 3.5 million designers and teams to create sites for companies including enterprise brands such as Dell, Rakuten, UpWork, and Petal. It raised a large amount of funding in a Series C round in 2022. This is being used to further develop its platform, with a longer-term goal of pivoting to providing a no-code tool not only for websites, but software development as well.
