Role
Who you are
- Proficiency in SQL/ Python/ Pyspark and/or other languages relevant to data processing Worked with large-scale data storage and processing tools using AWS services such as S3, Glue, Redshift, Lambda, and EMR
- Strong experience in dbt
- Build and optimise data models, ensuring data is structured, accessible, and performant for downstream analytics and machine learning models
- Monitor and troubleshoot performance issues in data pipelines, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal data throughput
- Strong probleming solving skills and attention to detail
- A passion for creating business value through data
- Strong communication skills, in particular the ability to translate technical concepts to non technical stakeholders
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Data Engineer to join our Data Engineering team which sits under Tech and Data
- Working with Product Engineers to establish ‘what is good quality data’
- Design, develop, and manage end-to-end data pipelines to extract, transform, and load (ETL/ELT) data from multiple sources
- Automate deployment and infrastructure as code (IaC) using Terraform
- Collaborate in the development of best practices, documentation, and process improvements for data operations
- Play a key role in establishing best practices for modelling and processing data
- Help support data culture initiatives to grow data maturity at Funding Circle

Our take
Funding Circle launched in 2010 and it was the perfect time in the market. After the financial crisis in 2008, financial institutions were hesitant to lend money. Loans to SMEs were at record lows.
This meant that Funding Circle's innovative platform - connecting investors and businesses directly - had immediate product-market fit and growth. Funding Circle remains incredibly focused on small businesses, and this set it apart from other lending platforms. The business has since expanded to the USA.
The company completed its IPO in September 2018 in a challenging economic environment in Europe and the USA. More recently, however, trading in the group’s core UK market has been helped by its participation in the government’s Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme – the company says it has been responsible for a quarter of CBILS loans by volume since it was accredited to join the scheme in April 2020.
