Role
Who you are
- Education: BS in Computer Science or other engineering/technical field. Equivalent experience also accepted
- Experience: 5+ years of developing clean, scalable and efficient web apps using Javascript and Ruby/Rails in a fast-paced environment
- Preferred: Previous Direct-to-Consumer / Online Payments experience
- The ability to build a full web app - back to front, with a passion for strong test coverage
- A demonstrated eye for design, as well as the ability to identify and solve real-world user problems
- An understanding of troubleshooting issues that may arise, and planning for scale
- Interest in learning additional skills/technologies as we continue to scale our platform and suite of tools
- You get excited about building polished experiences for people on the web, helping them get to the things they need, while delighting them wherever they may be. You know it's as much about how it feels, as how it looks
- You've worked on creating back-end micro-services, front-end component systems, API design/versioning, modern JavaScript libraries, webhooks, load balancers, caching solutions, responsive images, responsive grids, CSS pre-processors, and templating engines. What the job involves
- When it comes to web development, nothing stands in your way because you have all the tools for success on front-end, back-end, and all the pipes in between.
- This includes short and mid-term projects that will immediately move key company metrics as well as lay the technical foundation for long-term success.
- You’ll be a part of a strong digital product team of designers, product managers, and data analysts to continuously add to and improve our customers’ experiences online at scale
- Help lead the design, architecture, and execution of everything from front to back
- Establish engineering processes, define company engineering standards, identify and implement core technologies, and remove technical hurdles
- Work directly with our other Engineers, Designers, Product, and Marketing teams to implement core features across our customers’ experiences
- Build solutions for appropriate scalability. You're ok building something "hacky" if it fits the need, but can also call out real issues and create simple, scalable solutions for them
Our take
Ritual sells health supplements direct-to-consumer, with a strong focus on ingredient ethicality, traceability and transparency. Its products include multivitamins, plant based protein and Omega 3 – as well as a noteworthy prenatal vitamin, which was inspired by founder & CEO Katerina Schneider’s fruitless search for a similar product while pregnant.
The brand takes a strong position, labeling itself a team of skeptics who don’t subscribe to pseudoscience. Instead, the company conducts deep scientific research, whilst demanding more transparency in supplement ingredients – in fact, even its product capsules are clear colored. It’s a standout stance to take, going against the often over-positive wellness messages crafted by similar companies.
The health supplement industry is a crowded space in the US. Legacy providers dominate the market while conscious startups like Ritual try to appeal to equally conscious consumers. Ritual’s future success will depend largely on increasing its already strong brand awareness, as indicated by a huge social media following, and further product launches, an approach it’s admittedly well-funded for.
