Role
Who you are
- BS or BA plus experience in technical field
- 5+ years as a technical product owner for a commercial product/solution serving an IT or DevOps platform technical audience - such as automation solutions, data solutions, or development/operations products
- A strong understanding of database and cloud technology; hands on preferred
- A strong understanding of DevOps automation and CI/CD solutions and processes; hands-on experience preferred
- Experience working on a product that relies on integration with a diverse ecosystem of third-party products
- Extensive experience writing and refining agile epics and stories to produce predictable product outcomes on an agile scrum team
- An incredible talent for cross-functional collaboration
Desirable
- Experience working with teams building and maintaining APIs
- Experience with JIRA & Confluence
- Experience with database applications as a DBA or Developer
- Certified Scrum Product Owner or similar certification
- Active participation in an open source project
- Agile certifications
- Active participation in a product management community
What the job involves
- Own the near-term technical product backlog for one or more of our Database DevOps platform solutions, including setting milestones and prioritizing deliverables
- Define detailed technical product requirements based on customer and business requirements
- Manage detailed planning and delivery of features, including prioritizing and grooming the backlog
- Assist Engineering in managing the backlog of technical debt and currency
- Coordinate with the Customer Success team on customer reported issues and feature requests
- Engage customers to better understand their needs and requests so you can translate them into actionable product plans for Engineering
- Be the day-to-day point of contact of Product Management for Engineering
- Work with the Engineering, Design, Documentation, and Customer Success teams to create complete and polished product offerings
- Work with the Sales, Product Marketing, and Customer Success teams to prepare for product launches and provide the materials necessary to educate other departments on product enhancements, their value, and their use
Our take
Application code can be developed quite swiftly, but the database code underlying it is often a major bottleneck. The need to make manual changes to databases slows down development and introduces the risk of human error into the process. Liquibase was created to automate database schema updates, eliminating wasted time and making databases safer and more secure in the process.
There are other database change management tools on the market (for instance, Flyway). Still, Liquibase stands out in its flexibility, supporting XML, JSON, and YAML languages for defining database changes, in addition to the industry-standard SQL, and in its ability to work with both NoSQL and relational database types. Because of these advantages, Liquibase has developed a strong developer community and has been downloaded over 100 million times, and is used by enterprises such as IBM Watson Health, Ticketmaster and UPS.
