Who you are
- Engineering student with a strong business appetite who wants to move further into Product
- Ideally a first internship experience in a similar role
- Passionate about data and digital with a very strong business sense
- Excellent communication skills (written/oral) and ability to simplify complex systems
- Solid project management skills
- Fluent English; French or Spanish is a plus
- Proficiency in SQL. Knowledge of Python and dbt is a plus

What the job involves
- Within the Data team, you will work under the responsibility of our Product Manager
- Acting as a true interface between the Data and Business teams and the Data Engineers and Product team, you will ensure the smooth delivery of data projects as a whole: you will be involved in defining every stage of the project lifecycle, from data ingestion and pre-processing to API development, workflow automation, and maintenance of analytical/ML/AI infrastructures
- You will also directly assist Data Analysts and Analytics Engineers, serving as the primary point of contact for business teams
- To meet these challenges, we are looking for a Data Analyst Intern for a 6-month period, with a start date between April and June
- Product Ownership:
- Collecting and challenging needs by engaging with business teams (Finance, Marketing, Operations)
- Leveraging synergies between Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, Data Science, and Data Analysis
- Developing the roadmap for Data Engineers
- Defining requirements, prioritizing tasks, and providing support for root cause analysis
- Communicating on development progress
- Data Reliability:
- Defining data exchange standards with providers
- Validating the quality of specific code/scripts
- Reducing latency between data creation and its availability on dashboards
- Generative AI:
- LLM/AI Quality: Evaluating pipelines, test datasets, and performance metrics
- Generative AI topics (Gemini, transcriptions, auto-tagging) and knowledge bases
- Interfacing with technical stakeholders (answering queries, pre/post investigation)
- Analysis for Top Management Decision-Making:
- Drafting business analysis deliverables: cost/revenue management, acquisition channels, conversion funnels, 360° customer vision
- Organizing project management for complex projects (attribution models, margin steering, recurring revenue tools)

Our take
Papernest helps customers manage their utility bills and subscriptions via its online platform. It predominantly focuses on streamlining the administration involved in moving house, like changing or cancelling water bills and gym registrations, with an additional service that works like a more conventional price comparison site for utilities like internet and gas. It is providing a much-needed service in what's proven to be an interestingly narrow and non-competitive niche.
The company so far has been partnering with real estate agency referrals to bring new customers on board. So the boom in people changing homes over the last few years is likely to have played strongly in Papernest’s favour. It has leveraged a strategic partnership with open banking firm Tink, using the company’s broader European coverage to springboard into more geographies.
Papernest seems something of a rare find: a solution that neatly resolves a large and material problem, that’s proven hugely popular, and yet that hasn’t inspired a flurry of would-be competitors. With the housing market still relatively hot, and mid-term moves inspired by the growing digital-nomad lifestyle still on the rise, Papernest seem to be in a rosy position. If it gets too rosy though, it may have to watch its back.
