Who you are
- This role requires strong technical acumen, exceptional organizational and communication skills, and experience leading complex projects in regulated environments
- Technical background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- Experience in program/project management: 4+ years managing complex technical projects, preferably in hardware, semiconductors, or deep tech
- Highly organized and efficient: Proven track record of handling multiple projects and priorities
- Strong communication skills: Ability to translate technical challenges into actionable program management plans
- Experience with regulated industries: Familiarity with ISO 13485, FDA QSR, IEC 60601, or similar standards
- Data-driven decision-making: Proficient in project tracking, reporting, and analytics tools
- Ability to work across disciplines: Experience coordinating work across hardware, software, and regulatory teams
Desirable
- PMP, PgMP, or equivalent certification
- Experience with ultrasound or other medical imaging technologies
- Exposure to high-volume manufacturing environments
- Understanding of software development processes and integration workflows
What the job involves
- Butterfly Embedded is a division of Butterfly Network focused on expanding the reach of Butterfly’s core Ultrasound-on-Chip™ technology through strategic partnerships and technology integrations. The Butterfly Embedded team collaborates with partners across medical devices, life sciences, robotics, and industrial applications to co-develop and commercialize innovative ultrasound-powered solutions
- We are seeking an Engineering Program Manager (EPM) to drive the execution of highly technical projects across engineering, manufacturing, and regulatory disciplines for the Butterfly Embedded business
- The EPM will be responsible for program execution from concept to commercialization, ensuring that Butterfly Embedded and its partners meet critical technical milestones while maintaining high efficiency
- Program Execution: Support the planning and execution of technical projects across the R&D, product development, new product introduction, and regulatory compliance
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Work closely with engineering, regulatory, quality, legal, and supply chain teams to ensure projects remain on track
- Budgeting & Resource Management: Track and manage project budgets, forecasts, and internal time tracking for accurate financial reporting
- Technical Roadmap Alignment: Maintain alignment between Octiv’s technical priorities and those of its partners, ensuring deliverables meet strategic goals
- Milestone Tracking: Keep detailed records of project milestones, technical dependencies, and risk management plans
- Regulatory & Compliance Coordination: Work with internal and external teams to ensure medical device compliance, including FDA, ISO, and other regulatory standards
- Logistics & Order Fulfillment: Oversee procurement, production scheduling, and logistics to ensure timely delivery of products and components
- Process Optimization: Identify bottlenecks in project execution and improve processes to enhance efficiency
Our take
Ultrasound machines are invaluable tools for clinicians, but these setups remain inaccessible to many. This is due to existing machines relying on quartz-powered transducers and other specialized components, resulting in a very large size and an expensive price tag.
Butterfly Network builds innovative, inexpensive, and compact ultrasound technology in order to increase access to clinics across the U.S. The device is around the same size as an electric razor, a design made possible by storing the ultrasound technology on a chip as opposed to a semi-conductor.
Whilst the company has not innovated the ultrasound process itself, Butterfly Network has found a unique gap in the market by providing inexpensive and easy-to-use access to the many clinics that could benefit from having an ultrasound machine. The device is available for under $2,000, but software designed for easy access and interpretation of ultrasound imagery comes at an additional monthly cost.
The company has also launched its very own AI marketplace called ''Butterfly Garden'' where medical device companies, virtual care companies, and AI developers can access Butterfly's software development kit. This will enable them to build new applications that reach Butterfly's prominent installed base.
