Who you are
- Excellent software craftsmanship, architecture and design skills
- Able to quickly learn new tools, platforms and languages
- To you testing is not optional, and a failing test is a top priority issue
- Effective at working autonomously or as part of a team, able to cover the distance but know when to stop and ask for help
- Security-minded from the start, and security patterns and pitfalls are always at the front of your mind
- Communicate clearly and effectively with others, orally and in writing
- Write and maintain effective software and systems documentation
- Understand and appreciate working in a startup environment
- Not shy to hold a production release if you believe the code is not ready
- Proficient with the tools of the trade - git, Docker, Postman, build systems, IDEs, etc., and completely at home in the linux/unix shell
- Relational database-driven RESTful and/or GraphQL API application architecture and design experience
- Experience with test-driven development
- Good understanding of systems and network design and their impact on application architecture
- Experience building and running scalable and reliable microservice-based applications
- Experience working with a cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Experience crafting software in one or more of: node.js, Python, Go
Desirable
- 5 or more years of software engineering experience; B2C platform or service experience is a plus
- Experience with mobile application development is a plus
- Experience with front-end development is a plus
- Experience with authentication and authorization systems and protocols is a plus
What the job involves
- Building microservices that implement new business features or improve existing functionality
- Working closely with the Infrastructure, Web and Mobile teams to deploy, monitor and troubleshoot multiple software systems
- Developing vendor and client integration modules and processes, as well as interfaces with emerging technologies
- Helping develop and streamline our operational and engineering support systems and workflows
- Participating in an agile workflow, peer reviews, collaborative design sessions, production issue troubleshooting, business requirement gathering and other organizational processes
- As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be part of the team that builds and operates the software systems behind Thrive’s core products and services
- The successful candidate has experience to quickly size up problems, devise effective solutions and drive their execution from the blank sheet to production
