Who you are

Professional experience developing in C++
Experience working on large-scale client-server architectures
Experience building and supporting systemic gameplay features such as itemization, economy, progression, in-game storefronts, purchasing/MTX, or similar
Ability to communicate effectively with customers of different technical and non-technical backgrounds to build features and achieve goals
Additional for Architect: Experience leading technical projects or managing other Engineers

Experience working with modern console architectures and multi-platform systems
Willingness to manage or mentor other engineers

What the job involves

As a Gameplay Systems Engineer on the Commercialization team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and evolving Destiny’s showcase of products and offerings
You’ll learn to work within our engine, expanding its capabilities and crafting incredible player experiences. Most importantly, you’ll work with a fun and energetic team dedicated to improving our craft
Collaborate with business, UI, design, and other teams to identify technical solutions
Build, extend, and maintain commercialization features, workflows and tools
Build and maintain production-quality C++ code
Collaborate daily with a cross-disciplinary team to build amazing new technology, including forays beyond the core C++ engine (e.g., C++/C# scalable online services)
Additional for Architect: Work with Engineers on other teams to build technical plans and coordinate deliveries

Our take

As one of the leading video game companies in the US, Bungie’s former titles have included bestselling game franchises such as Halo and Destiny, marking it as a next-gen studio that is keeping its finger on the next-gen games console pulse.

Bungie scaled up in the early noughties thanks to an acquisition by Microsoft, leading to a period where Bungie made games for a variety of consoles. In 2022, it was bought by Sony for $3.6 billion, though it claims that it will still work across different platforms despite its owner’s lean towards PlayStation.

Indeed, Sony claims to have bought Bungie for its help in entering the live service games market. In return, Bungie will benefit by scaling up its team for new game and DLC releases. This is a promising direction, although it is worth noting that the underperformance of Destiny 2 has cast a few worries on the nature of Bungie's independent future.
