Role

Who you are

  • As our next Account Executive, you should have 3+ years of experience working in a fast-paced, client-facing role, and a track record of working quickly and iteratively
  • You are a fast learner and self-starter energized by talking to people, solving challenges, and driving towards sales goals
  • You are a fluent French and English speaker, with a deep understanding of the Benelux market
  • You have a passion for our mission at Whatnot - you live and breathe the needs of our communities and work relentlessly to improve their experiences on Whatnot
  • You are scrappy and flexible enough to work in an ambiguous environment with limited guidance
  • You have experience selling and closing deals as well as the ability to manage multiple accounts and client needs at the same time
  • You have proficiency with a CRM software and are ready and willing to learn new systems
  • You have business acumen, are deeply analytical, and comfortable understanding and manipulating data to gain and take action on business insights

Desirable

  • Experience at a high-growth startup, marketplace, or creator-focused platform
  • Proficiency in Airtable and Salesforce
  • Passion for creator communities and/or new product categories that are uniquely suited to live ecommerce
  • Experience buying and selling in online marketplaces

What the job involves

  • As an Account Executive (French Speaking), you will drive the expansion of Whatnot’s supply by acquiring and nurturing new livestream sellers
  • You will oversee your own portfolio and manage the entire sales cycle, from pitching and onboarding to providing strategic coaching and facilitating growth
  • Your goal will be to consistently meet or exceed sales targets by effectively managing your pipeline
  • Deeply understanding our end-to-end sales process and collaborating with the team to bring high-potential sellers to Whatnot
  • Becoming the go-to expert on how SMBs, primarily sellers with an online presence, can scale their business with Whatnot
  • Source and prospect sellers, securing initial discovery and onboarding calls
  • Leading sales calls with seller prospects, primarily over video and phone calls, overcoming objections and effectively communicating Whatnot’s value proposition
  • Closing sellers, ultimately onboarding them onto the platform, and setting them up for success
  • Utilizing key data points to assess seller growth, success, and areas for improvement to drive continuous iteration
  • Collaborating with internal partners to develop business growth strategies and communicate product improvements and feedbac

Our take

The collectible toy market is large, and Whatnot has built a unique social platform that enables sellers to use livestreams to showcase their products and reach more buyers. The company’s focus is on collectible toys, some of which are rare and can cost thousands of dollars, and has also expanded to sports cards.

The idea of Whatnot was led by buyer trends. Instagram's live feature became a popular place for selling toys and trading cards, but of course was not set up to facilitate bidding or handling payments after a sale occurs. Whatnot combines live showcasing with follow-up sale capabilities, thus serving the community in a more novel way than established collectibles market players such as eBay.

The company has grown fast. It was established in 2019 and has already expanded from its original category - Funko Pop figurines - to Pokemon cards, pins, sports cards, and many more. There is still plenty of scope for expanding into new categories, as the company aims to establish itself as the go-to for this large niche, which will be facilitated by the strong levels of funding that Whatnot has raised.
