Role
Who you are
- A combination of: 3+ years of public accounting audit experience and/or 3+ years in private industry experience
- Solid, working knowledge of GAAP, ASC 606, SOX/Internal controls
- Sold, working knowledge of Revenue related metrics (ARR, Bookings, Billings)
- 3+ years SaaS industry experience
- Knowledge of NetSuite. Advanced Excel skills are required
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred (MBA,MAcc, Masters in Data Analytics)
- Ability to think independently and creatively through self-management and project ownership
- Ability to drive execution of process improvements and automation
- Strong attention to detail and the proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to share new ideas and solutions with peers and stakeholders to gain consensus

What the job involves
- Lead day-to-day accounting and finance activities, develops and reports on company wide growth metrics, develops company forecasts and budgets, drives automation, and can scale in a fast-pace, high-growth software company aimed at solving estate planning’s biggest challenges
- This position will report to the Director of Finance & Accounting
- You’ll play a key role in developing and implementing proper keeping and reporting of financial records, financial metrics, audit compliance, and collaborating day-to-day with other key business leaders
- Manage day-to-day financial metric reporting across business units (revenue, marketing, etc..)
- Partner with manager on and own monthly/quarterly management financial and metric reporting and monthly variance analysis
- Assist in the management of day-to-day accounting activities to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, internal policies and external audits
- Develop internal policies, processes and procedures that are appropriately tailored to be effective and efficient in a start-up company environment. You will drive process improvement and automation efforts to streamline finance & accounting operations
- Assist in the accounting month-end/year-end close process
- Partner with outsourced accounting firm and manager to construct month end close cycle cadence to ensure complete and accurate financial reporting
- Hands-on preparation and management of all journal entries, account reconciliations, balance sheet reviews as part of the general ledger month-end process
- Collaborate with all Vanilla stakeholders to ensure quote-to-collect, procure-to-pay, payroll processes are seamless across the company
- Help prepare Vanilla for a First-Year External Audit
- Assist with the management of 1099s, sales tax, business property taxes, and other corporate filings
- Mentor, train, and advise Vanilla team members as to the role and collaborative partnerships needed to ensure company success
