Our take
Ex Populus is a Web 3.0 game studio developing high-end games that incorporate NFT products and collectibles. At present, its games in development include Final Form and an as-of-yet untitled open-world experience. It has also purchased the LAMOverse from game studio LAMO, which includes a range of phygital (a marketing term for both digital and physical products) games and collectibles.
As it stands, Ex Populus has joined the ranks of Web 3.0-focused game developers that have enjoyed considerable funding but have no games available to wider audiences outside of demo phases. The acquisition of LAMO ensures Ex Populus has a foothold in the market, with the 2019 release of the mobile game bringing in millions of downloads.
Ex Populus is also transforming the LAMOS game into NFT collectibles, but it can’t rest on its laurels, even with high-profile hires like Game Director Joseph Ganetakos. The proof of Ex Populus’s longevity within the highly competitive market relies on the quality of its original gaming releases.
