Role
Who you are
- Do you want to help modernize our Data Platform by contributing to our ETL tooling
- Perhaps you're passionate about working with folks all throughout the business from Product to Data Science
- 6+ years of data engineering, software engineering, data science, or other relevant experience
- Expertise in Python and SQL with a passion for writing high-quality code
- Experience designing and deploying highly performant data pipelines with reliable monitoring and logging practices
- Proven track record of exercising data engineering best practices around data governance, data modeling, automated testing, and monitoring
- Experience and enthusiasm for mentoring teammates, providing technical feedback, and sharing knowledge with others
- Expertise with the majority of our tech stack: Python, DBT, Dagster, Redshift, Docker, Kafka, Kubernetes, Terraform
What the job involves
- Our team works closely with all parts of the organization to ensure that the data the business relies on is fresh, accurate, and reliable and that our reporting infrastructure meets the needs of everyone from analysts to the C-suite
- We own all things data-related at Rover, from the data ingestion to analytics infrastructure and tooling, which means you'll get the chance to work on exciting and impactful projects and learn a ton along the way
- You'll lead cross team data projects to ensure our pipelines are reliable, efficient, and testable
- Communicate efficiently across team boundaries to establish overarching data architecture, and provide guidance to individual teams
- Deliver well-defined, transformed, tested, documented, and code-reviewed DBT models and ETL pipelines
- Mentor fellow Engineers to help develop and grow their technical skills
- Build self-service tools that empower engineers, data scientists, and analysts to quickly get key business insights
- Understand our Rover's data needs and identifying inefficiencies in the Data Platform to help prioritize and inform our team's roadmap

Rover has fundamentally changed the U.S pet services industry, a market which is worth $10+ billion, by improving the way pet owners find and book pet care. Rover’s app is now the most downloaded and best-reviewed dog walking and pet sitting app in North America.
Although things slowed down for the company during the pandemic, the successful bounce-back has led it to an IPO and significant growth, notably in European markets. Pet spending is on the rise too, and Rover seems well positioned to ride that wave - an outlook reinforced by its $2.3 billion acquisition by Blackstone, which shows both the platform's resilience and the long-term attractiveness of its offering.
