Role
Who you are
- 4-7 years of relevant work experience in corporate finance, investment banking, consulting, and/or business operations.
- Business and/or consumer banking experience is required, (Previous experience working within Tech preferred)
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Finance, Business, Engineering, Mathematics, etc.)
- Expertise in Excel and Google Sheets, with the ability to create insightful models and perform quantitative analysis
- Strong critical thinking and business judgment skills
- Willingness to learn or experience with SQL for deep-diving into large datasets
- Experience managing business processes in enterprise tools like Asana and Pigment
- Comfortable analyzing data using Tableau or other BI tools
- Strong analytical skills with a natural intuition for numbers and data
- High degree of accuracy in a fast-paced, results-driven environment
- Excellent time management skills—ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders while meeting deadlines on time-sensitive tasks
- Proactive mindset with a positive, service-oriented approach
What the job involves
- You’ll be the Finance, BizOps & Strategy Partner for Gusto’s core business line, Pay Group, which includes our payroll, time, and international payroll teams

- We roll up our sleeves as partners and collaborate closely with operators to drive meaningful impact
- You will lead key product operations and strategic initiatives for Gusto Pay Group, Gusto’s core business
- This is a high-impact, high-responsibility role
- As a trusted thought partner and business advisor, you will spearhead initiatives such as monthly forecast reviews, long-range planning, and pricing and business model recommendations
- You’ll gain experience in scaling operations for both established and emerging businesses while working cross-functionally to drive alignment and accelerate growth as we expand existing products and launch new ones
- Act as a key business partner to drive operations and conduct critical analyses and modeling to support leadership in making informed, strategically aligned decisions
- Set OKRs, establish ideal customer profiles, support new growth initiatives, and optimize pricing and packaging strategies
- Assess third-party partnerships by analyzing margins, reviewing key contract terms, and providing strategic negotiation insights to ensure long-term business sustainability
- Support Gusto Pay Group by managing revenue models, driving strategic planning and forecasting
- Apply a solutions-oriented mindset while collaborating with key stakeholders to maximize performance within existing investment allocations
- In this high visibility role you’ll partner with the product lead to translate their forward looking strategy and financial results to executive leadership
Our take
For many small businesses, vital administrative tasks such as payroll, taxes, and benefits are manual tasks that take time and energy which many SMB owners don’t have. The three co-founders of Gusto – all coming from small business backgrounds – collaborated on a Fintech company that would handle employee payments, benefits administration, and compliance support specifically for small businesses.
The company may have started slowly, as the founders focused on nailing each individual aspect of Gusto’s operations, but has now skyrocketed to unicorn status with more than 200,000 customers and a multi-billion dollar valuation. In 2021, Gusto began acquiring other companies to strengthen its offering and its position in a competitive market, including two other fintech startups, Ardius and Symmetry.
Through its continued acquisitions and fundraising efforts, the company has carved out a strong position for itself in the space. Although Gusto has found itself impacted by the macroeconomic situation, through the significant effect it has had on its clientele, the company still appears positive for the future after raising funds in 2023 that will see it reach key profitability benchmarks. It continues to consolidate its platform, for example by integrating with OpenComp to grant its users access to the company's Compensation Intelligence Platform.
