What the job involves
- As a senior leader in the wider Engagement division, you'll drive a bold, strategic communications vision that brings our organisational strategy to life
- You'll position Anthony Nolan as a leading voice in our field where we connect science and people to transform the future for patients
- Leading a diverse and dynamic team, you’ll deliver high-impact campaigns across internal and external channels, ensuring our message is clear, consistent, and far-reaching
- Through smart partnerships with stakeholders such as colleagues, celebrities, influencers, and media, you’ll amplify our message and increase awareness of Anthony Nolan’s lifesaving work
- Lead the development of a bold, long-term strategic communications plan that aligns with our organisational goals, delivering standout campaigns, high-profile moments, and a clear calendar of key topics to drive engagement
- Bring hands-on press, media and social expertise, l supporting the team to build strong journalist relationships, shape proactive media strategies, and drive social media growth across organic channels
- Work with senior stakeholders to ensure consistent, impactful communications that reflect our strategic direction and strengthen our brand
- Position Anthony Nolan as a thought leader, amplifying our role pioneering new treatments and therapies
- Shape and diversify the stories we share, bringing to life the experiences of our patients, donors, supporters, volunteers and colleagues in fresh, compelling ways
- Protect and enhance our reputation, scanning the horizon for risks and opportunities, and playing a leading role in business continuity and crisis response
- Lead a high-performing communications team to deliver creative, high-impact PR and social media activity—securing national coverage and leveraging ambassadors and influencers to elevate our brand
- Champion internal communications, helping to build a strong employer brand, improve information flow, and drive meaningful engagement across teams
- Ensure ethical and inclusive storytelling, safeguarding the wellbeing of those who share their experiences and supporting spokespeople to shine on any platform
- Inspire, support and develop your team, setting clear objectives and creating an environment where people feel empowered to perform at their best
- Hours: 35 per week (standard Anthony Nolan working hours)

Our take
Founded in 1974 to find bone marrow donors for people suffering with blood cancer, Anthony Nolan is today one of Britain's largest recruiters of stem cell donors, along with DKMS, the Welsh Blood Service and NHS Blood and Transplant. As only one in four people with blood cancer will find a compatible donor in their family, Anthony Nolan's work saves over 1,000 lives a year worldwide.
Aside from recruiting donors, Anthony Nolan conducts research through the Anthony Nolan Research Institute, with its findings reducing post-transplant complications and increasing quality of life for patients. It also maintains the UK's first dedicated cord blood bank which allows new mothers to donate their umbilical cords for research.
Despite significant advances in blood cancer tratment since Anthony Nolan's founding, there's still a critical shortage of donors, sworsened by a sharp declinesiunce 2019. To combat this, the charity is actively raising awareness of this issue and is also set to open a new stem cell donation centre at Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham to further help address the gap.
