Role
Who you are
- 5+ years working on security tooling, API’s, and/or consumer facing web technologies
- Demonstrate leadership through analyzing potential issues and providing/implementing solutions
- Work closely with internal team members, and respective teams looking for Security Engineering assistance
- Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and networking
- Familiarity with code design principles, patterns, and methodologies
- Deep understanding of the development lifecycle, engineering best-practices, and working in an agile environment
- Experience in Python, Typescript
- Key security concepts such as cryptography, authentication, authorization, security protocols
- Experience with AWS, GCP
- Experience with Web Application Firewalls
- Experience with DevSecOps
Desirable
- Familiarity with industry regulations, such as PCI, GDPR, LGPD, and CCPA
- Security modeling structures: STRIDE, DREAD, CVSS, OCTAVE, MIL-STD-882E, etc
- Ability to examine application log data to find attack patterns and develop countermeasures
- Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB, Elastic-Search
- DevOps experience (Applications, Infrastructures, Databases)
- Experience in high-load environments
- BS in Computer Science / equivalent experience
- Experience with automated testing principles and best-practices
What the job involves
- Engineering + Security Focus = Security Engineer!
- Analyzes and recommends security standard processes, procedures in acquisition, development, and change management lifecycle of information systems, and monitors for compliance
- Architects, designs, implements, maintains and operates information system security controls and countermeasures
- Implement GDPR / CCPA data compliance controls in our Data Compliance Service
- Collaboratively work with security analysts to ensure information from our tools are clear & relevant
- Work and collaborate with engineers, product managers, and project managers to implement security controls across Crunchyroll's Platform, Services, and SDLC
- Support our team and improve internal processes
- Follow software development standard processes and methodologies

Despite this growth, distribution has historically posed challenges, with series and films often reaching overseas audiences through disparate channels, if at all. Crunchyroll emerged to address this issue by consolidating the largest collection of anime into a single streaming service.
Sony's acquisition of Crunchyroll in 2021 for $1.75B expanded the platform's reach, integrating Sony's extensive animation library into its offerings. this move also positioned Crunchyroll for heightened competition against streaming giant Netflix, known for its substantial investments in anime production and acquisition. Currently, Crunchyroll maintains an unrivaled library of anime content, boasting over 44,000 episodes that have attracted over 0M paying subscribers.
While Crunchyroll initially offered a free, ad-supported tier to its vast community, it appears poised to phase out this option, transitioning to a subscription-based model for all new series. Despite this shift, the platform has implemented a global reduction in fees to stimulate subscription uptake. The success of this strategy remains to be seen, but past experiences with companies like Hulu suggest that it may drive subscription growth and mitigate piracy
