Role
Who you are
- Vetcove is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Product Counsel to join our team
- The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technology transactions, intellectual property licensing, privacy and regulatory compliance, and possess the ability to anticipate legal risks and ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations
- J.D. from an accredited law school with a strong academic record; active membership in at least one U.S. state bar
- Minimum of 4-8 years of legal experience with a focus on technology and product counseling, ideally gained at a top-tier law firm (e.g., an AmLaw 100) or in-house at a software/tech-focused company
- Strong background in commercial contracting and tech transactions
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including excellent negotiation, drafting and analytical skills
- Strong business acumen and the ability to provide practical legal advice in a fast-paced environment
What the job involves
- The Product Counsel will partner closely with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, marketing and compliance, to provide legal guidance throughout the product development lifecycle
- Review and negotiate commercial contracts for all business functions, including: software licensing and SaaS agreements, vendor agreements, service level/support agreements, distribution agreements, DPAs, and other partnership agreements
- Provide legal advice to support business partners across the company, including working closely with the business and product team on new product launches
- Contribute to Vetcove’s privacy program by drafting and negotiating DPAs and advising the business teams on compliance with data privacy laws and regulations, including consumer data collection, use and disclosures
- Develop and maintain terms of service, terms of use, disclaimers, and other customer facing documentation
- Assess and mitigate legal risks associated with new features, updates, and product launches
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to develop and implement legal strategies that align with business goals
Our take
Purchasing inventory for veterinary hospitals can be time-consuming and expensive, as finding the best prices requires a lengthy process of researching suppliers and comparing their prices. Whilst some comparison tools do exist for veterinary organizations, existing solutions do not take into account custom negotiations, GPOs or corporate pricing schemes, limiting the thoroughness of comparisons.
Vetcove provides an online marketplace for veterinary hospital inventory procurement, allowing clinics to reduce ordering times and costs through its free service. The company achieves this by allowing users to link their existing vendor accounts and list their custom pricing arrangements, helping inform a more accurate comparison ecosystem and boost supplier sales, whilst resolving supply chain limitations.
Whilst veterinary organizations already have access to the suppliers provided on Vetcove’s marketplace, the company stands out by integrating custom pricing arrangements into the comparison ecosystem. This helps to provide a more holistic and accurate overview of supply chain inventories and costs. Whilst the marketplace is free for veterinary clinics and organizations, the company charges suppliers to be listed.
