Who you are
- 5-6+ years of product management - You have a deep understanding of the product craft throughout the entire product lifecycle - delivering successful & innovative products
- Growth product expertise – You deeply understand Growth product, incl. how to build seamless experiences to drive conversion, re-imagining referral programs, and building features throughout the product lifecycle to drive customer-led growth. You understand deeply how to enable our customers to become net promoters & referrers of the product, and how to incentivize them to keep driving growth
- Extreme fluency with data & A/B testing – You are very comfortable defining & running A/B tests. You know how to leverage data to make product decisions rapidly & insightfully
- An “owner” / “driver” mindset – You are biased toward action and get stuff done. No task is too big or too small for you. You strive to solve problems independently, while striking the balance of asking for help
- Drive for simplicity & elegance – Ability to take on complex product challenges and find elegant, simplifying solutions to avoid making them our customers’ and partner’s problems
- A high quality bar – For your own contributions and those of the people around you
- Comfort & skill with ambiguity - Ability to independently solve ambiguous problems with - first principles and structured thinking
- Strong written and & communication - High signal, clear & succinct, and structured communication

What the job involves
- We are looking for a Product Lead to lead Growth at Collective
- In this role you will own pre-payment conversion rate optimization, referral program experience, and product-led growth initiatives
- This role is high impact and crucial to our growth trajectory as a company
- As the product lead you will set the vision, strategy, roadmap, and lead execution for your area
- You will help your product development team navigate uncertainty with structured thinking & communication, make decisions with strong product & analytical sense, and be highly effective at execution & knocking down barriers
- Own the product area vision, strategy, implementation, and customer & business outcomes for Growth
- Grow Collective’s customer base through innovative product-led growth experiences (e.g. referrals, multi-user product experiences, community features and more)
- Work closely with Sales & Marketing to run sales/ funnel optimization experiments
- Lead and inspire an XFN team to ship innovative experiences
- Deeply understand business and product performance to ensure the team is focused on the highest leverage opportunities that balance long term growth with immediate business needs
- Manage the roadmap and team processes to enhance quality and velocity of execution, make tradeoff decisions between business priorities and available resources
- Drive effective partnership both cross-functionally, across product teams, and external partners to ensure the team is effectively strong business outcomes
- Define the framework and metrics to measure the impact of the team; deeply understand the core drivers and monitor progress
Our take
Collective is tapping into the quickly growing freelance and self employed workforce with a back office platform which provides full support for accounting, tax, book keeping and other financial admin, essentially removing the burden from the business owner entirely.
Having only launched in 2020, Collective didn’t take long to receive major backing from General Catalyst as well as Ashton Kutcher’s VC fund Sound Ventures. It’s put it to great use too, with an employee headcount now in the hundreds, showing just how fast the startup is growing.
Interestingly, Collective isn’t available for any and all subscribers. Rather, it only allows applicants to become members if Collective’s advisors know they can offer real value. It may seem a counter-intuitive move, but it keeps the company’s success rate high.
The company's latest 2023 funding round is being used to accelerate the implementation of AI across its operations as well as onboard the nearly 100,000 waitlisted businesses. it launched an AI accounting platform for one-person operations in 2024, exemplifying the savvy use of its funds.
