What the job involves
- It’s an exciting time for Clerk, coming off a year of record user growth and product launches that further our vision of making authentication and user management intuitive and enjoyable
- Technical Account Executives at Clerk help customers integrate and build on our platform — from developers integrating authentication into their app for the first time, to popular technology companies building complex identity and access management systems
- This is not a traditional “AE + SE” pairing
- You’ll be both the technical and commercial owner for your accounts: guiding customers through onboarding, unblocking them technically, handling pricing and contracts, and ensuring long-term growth
- Own a set of high-potential accounts, ensuring successful launch, adoption, and ongoing expansion
- Qualify and prioritize inbound opportunities, while experimenting with selective outbound in high-value segments
- Lead discovery and demos with external audiences of all kinds — from engineer to CXO — to understand business objectives and translate requirements into solutions
- Oversee onboarding in collaboration with field-facing teams, ensuring customers enjoy amazing user management experiences
- Contribute to the team’s revenue and retention goals by building trusted relationships and increasing customer lifetime value
- Spend some time analyzing our processes and instigating changes to help scale our user operations
- Surface customer insights to product and engineering, ensuring the roadmap reflects real-world needs
Our take
Authentication is only part of the story when it comes to user management. Developers using API tools also face the complex UI and management issues of additional features like user sign-up, sign-in, and session management, to name a few. Clerk was founded to make this simpler, reducing hours of work to minutes using pre-built React components.
Clerk stands out in a market dominated by the likes of Auth0 and OneSpan with its focus on React rather than API. This taps into a growing number of developers working with Jamstack rather than trying to wrestle customers away from market incumbents - a smart move which has seen its userbase swell by five times, growing to over a million developers.
This rapid growth has attracted investors, and Clerk closed a Series B round in 2024. This funding is being used to expand the company's services into authorisation - determining a user's permissions as opposed to simply identifying them. As account security and management will continue to be a major focus for developers going forward, Clerk is well positioned to grow into a major player in this space, especially as it continues to expand its product range.
