Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of experience overseeing operations in a complex, fast-moving, rapidly changing environment such as a distribution warehouse, restaurant, or delivery operation
- Excel or Google Sheets proficiency
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with an ability to zoom out and understand the bigger context of your work
- Proven track record of analytical problem-solving
- Strong interest in biking, bikeshare, sustainable transportation, and city planning

What the job involves
- We’re looking for an Operations Specialist who wants to continue the micromobility revolution
- As the Operations Specialist, you will support the General Manager of Divvy in developing and executing operational plans with a consistent eye towards service quality, operational excellence, continuous improvement, and the overall customer experience
- You’ll roll up your sleeves for some hands-on problem solving, while also tackling big picture projects to improve the Divvy system
- If you share our vision for active transportation that empowers local communities, reduces our environmental footprint, and brings people together, then we’d love to meet you!
- Own the Divvy stations vertical including the siting, deployment, and maintenance of our 1000+ station network
- Ensure smooth daily field operations: create/refine playbooks and SOPs, oversee aspects of contractor relationship management, and perform regular quality checks in field and depot
- Own end-to-end invoicing processes, asset tracking and management tools to support the success of the business
- Support the General Manager of Divvy in maintaining relationships with our city partners and addressing market-specific operational issues or special projects
- Conduct deep-dive analysis to identify root causes of issues, using insights from field operations and data to collaborate with teams, implement solutions, and drive performance improvements
- Communicate clearly and confidently with internal and external stakeholders, tackling challenging conversations when necessary
- Manage shifting priorities effectively, adapting to dynamic needs while maintaining a positive, solution-oriented attitude
Our take
Lyft has aimed for consistent growth, making sure to pitch itself as a more reliable and friendly ride-sharing option than its main competitor, Uber. Uber has a greater market share and operates globally, but Lyft hopes to compete by its focus on ride-sharing over Uber's more diversified business approach and as a more rider-friendly and greener alternative to Uber.
Operating only in the USA and Canada, Lyft is in a position of being less affected by global events than Uber but also more vulnerable to local conditions. As an example, while it doesn't face the regulatory hurdles around employment rights that Uber does, it is unable to balance out the cost of the unusually expensive US auto insurance across its operations.
In 2022, Lyft acquired PBSC Urban Solutions, a bike-share equipment and technology supplier, allowing Lyft to compete in new verticals and reaffirming its commitment to green transportation. It has also trialed and launched Lyft Assisted, where drivers help passengers from their door into the car to get to medical appointments. These developments chime well with Lyft's unique selling point as a friendlier and more environmentally aware ride-sharing app.
