Who you are
- The ideal candidate for this position is detail oriented, deeply understands the value of people, and has a proactive mindset
- 7+ years of progressive experience in Human Resources or People Operations, ideally within media, tech, or other dynamic, high-growth environments
- A proactive self-starter who thrives on ownership and creative problem-solving
- Proven success owning and improving key People programs such as performance management, compensation cycles, benefits administration, and employee experience
- Strong operational mindset with a passion for identifying inefficiencies and building scalable, thoughtful processes that improve how teams work
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and data-driven, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Great interpersonal skills
What the job involves
- Morning Brew Inc Is seeking an Associate Director, People Ops Generalist to join our growing People Ops team
- The People Ops hire will report to the SVP, Head of People Operations
- This role will have full ownership of the company’s LOA program, ensuring a seamless and supportive experience from start to finish
- Heading our Culture Club, the employee-led initiative focused on enhancing employee experience and engagement
- Partnering with Executive Leadership and ERG leads to reimagine DEI strategy, designing initiatives and cultural moments that foster belonging, celebrate identity, and embed inclusivity into how Morning Brew Inc. operates and grows
- Providing expert advice and support to employees to promote thoughtful, fair, and effective resolution of employee relation matters
- Oversee the strategy and execution of company-wide training and manager development initiatives, ensuring programs are impactful, scalable, and foster a culture of growth, accountability, and engagement across Morning Brew Inc
- Collaborate with our Office Director to deliver engaging in-office experiences and programs that enhance workplace culture and employee connection
- Assist in leading exit interviews and supporting the offboarding process to ensure a thoughtful, respectful transition while capturing valuable feedback to enhance organizational practices
- Manage employee benefits and 401(k) administration, ensuring accurate enrollment, compliance, and support across all related programs
- Maintain company compliance in partnership with our PEO, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
- Oversee the operational logistics of the company’s performance, promotion, and bonus review processes, collaborating closely with the Head of HR and Finance to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and a consistent employee experience
- Support the Head of HR with the execution of organizational needs, design scalable people structures, and proactively address talent and team design opportunities that align with company growth
- Perform other HR related duties, as needed
Our take
The last few years have seen a flurry of newsletters start up and rise to prominence. The pivot away from news outlets towards alternative content production sites like Substack, and the consumer pursuit of more personal brand engagement have all made newsletters a lucrative business proposition. Buoyed up by this trend is Morning Brew, a daily business summary newsletter.
Recently, Morning Brew’s subscriber count has been rising increasingly fast, topping 4 million at the time of writing. The founders put this down to its 2020 acquisition by media behemoth Insider, following which the headcount more than quadrupled, and new channels like a podcast, YouTube, and an education product have been added to the Morning Brew output.
The company is now looking to expand to cover news across more industry verticals, and it has the security, engagement, and means to do so with confidence. In 2023, it acquired the short-form business news video platform Our Future to expand Morning Brew product offerings.
