Who you are
- Experience designing, coding, and implementing applications from the datastore to the public interface
- Awareness of the constraints around code performance, data storage and retrieval, caching, distributed systems, and customer needs
- BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years of development experience
- Used statically typed languages (we use Golang)
- Willing to use (and learn, if needed) Go and Python on a regular basis
- Willing to use (and learn, if needed) PHP on a less-regular basis
- Experienced with designing, consuming, or implementing RESTful services
- Experienced with working with distributed systems, SOA, or microservices
- Working knowledge of traditional databases (PostgreSQL or other relational database)
- Passionate about writing reusable code that empowers other developers to work faster and smarter
- Can deliver well-tested code that enterprises can rely on
- Working source control knowledge including branching, merging, and rebasing (we use git)
- Strong work ethic and willingness to continuously improve
Desirable
- Experience with message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc)
- Experience working with a GLNP (Go, Linux, Nginx, PostgreSQL) stack
- Experience with PL/PGSQL stored procedures
- Experience with key-value data stores (Redis, HBase, HDFS, or other)
What the job involves
- Cloudflare is looking for a Web Services Engineer to help us build services (small or micro) with RESTful APIs and their own datastores using Python and Go. You will also write/update a spec for your service, so others know how it works
- In this role you will integrate multiple services via message queue-like (Kafka) systems and evaluate 3rd party and open source tools
- You will have the opportunity to contribute to open source projects that we use internally and build tools to allow other departments to keep track of certificate status
- You will design and implement alerts, write procedures for ops to handle such alerts, or be escalated-to around unresolved operational issues
- You will also need to read and understand code from a legacy codebase to migrate logic to a modern services architecture and review the code of fellow engineers via pull requests

Cloudflare is a multi-service global network that provides web security and infrastructure, DDoS mitigation services, and a content delivery network. Founded in 2009, Cloudflare has risen to become an industry giant, with over 25 million global internet properties on its network.
Cloudflare has been responsible for a number of admirable initiatives, offering free web protection to human rights groups, journalists, artists, and US election websites. This goes some way to counteracting the flak Cloudflare has received in some circles for the controversial groups and users who use its services. This chequered history, however, has not affected its over 80% market share in the content delivery network field.
This is perhaps in part because it has proven sharp at staying abreast of the rapidly morphing tech and digital space and customer demands. For example, Cloudflare is shifting to 100% renewable energy usage to create a zero-emissions internet, and in 2020 released a feature that would help users navigate data privacy regulations by selecting where their data is stored.
And impressive third-quarter 2025 results show strong momentum, with revenue rising to $562 million from $430 million a year earlier. The company also raised its full-year guidance, underscoring confidence in continued growth. As demand for secure, cloud-based infrastructure keeps growing, Cloudflare's expanding platform and improving efficiency leave it well positioned to capture further gains in a rapidly growing market.
