Who you are
- If you want to take technical ownership of a modern data platform and shape how data is modeled, tested, deployed, and consumed across an organization, this role is for you
- With several years of experience in data engineering and data warehousing, ideally in cloud environments, you bring the technical foundation to design scalable architectures
- Your strong command of SQL and Python enables you to build and optimize efficient data pipelines
- A deep understanding of modern data architectures helps you see the bigger picture and design sustainable solutions
- You have interest or first-hand experience with Microsoft Fabric or related Azure services and are eager to apply this knowledge
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD, DevOps practices, and Git/GitHub workflows
- A structured, independent working style and the confidence to own technical decisions
- You combine communication skills with team spirit and enjoy sharing your knowledge openly
- Fluency in English (C1) allows you to collaborate effectively across teams. German is a significant advantage, but it is not mandatory
What the job involves
- Join us and lead the next stage of our BI and data platform evolution on Microsoft Fabric
- As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be the technical owner of our data platform within the Business Intelligence team
- You work closely with Data Analysts together to enable data-driven working across the organisation
- In this position, you'll work in a hybrid setup – combining remote work within Germany with regular on-site presence at our office in Schöppingen. We’ll find a setup that suits both you and the team
- You define and drive the engineering strategy for our modern data platform, ensuring that architectural decisions align with business goals and future growth
- You finalize the ongoing migration from our legacy on-premise MySQL data warehouse to a modern, cloud-based platform on Microsoft Fabric and drive the next phase of platform evolution
- You design and maintain robust data architectures combining lakehouse concepts with classical data warehousing (star / snowflake schemas)
- You develop and operate ETL/ELT pipelines using SQL, Python, and Fabric Data Pipelines
- You establish standards for data modeling, testing, deployment, and documentation
- You build CI/CD pipelines with automated tests and deployments, using GitHub as the central version control platform
- You work closely with analysts to provide stable semantic models as the foundation for Power BI and self-service analytics
- You act as the primary technical contact for data engineering topics and make architectural decisions in cross-functional projects
- Regular team updates help you share knowledge, promote transparency, and continuously improve our data platform
- This role is not a pure BI or reporting role. It is about owning the data platform, defining standards, automating everything that can be automated, and enabling others to work independently on a reliable foundation

Our take
The eCommerce boom in recent years has shown no signs of slowing down, and Shopware is capturing the opportunity. The company offers a set of open source tools to power the online shopping experience for hundreds of thousands of brands.
There are of course competitors, like Shopify Plus, but Shopware has stood out for serving mid-market companies that were not digitally-native businesses but had to take on digital channels to keep up with customer demand. This, combined with the obvious increase in brands and companies needing help when eCommerce became more mainstream, has served Shopware particularly well.
Founded in 2000, the company only received its first round of funding in 2022. Until then, it had been profitable off its own back. This capital and support from, among others, Carlyle and PayPal will be invested in its international growth.
