Who you are
- You have a critical thinking mindset, and the ability to imagine the future while considering the implications of your design decisions
- With excellent communication skills, you are comfortable presenting your ideas through various media – words, whiteboard, graphics or prototypes
- You are excited about working with a cutting edge team in the connected home market and can draw on past interactive and graphic design experience to craft high quality designs that solve real problems for our customers
- 2+ years of industry experience, including design of responsive web
- Degree or diploma in UX/interactive/graphic design, or equivalent
- Experience with an e-commerce platform or subscription based service is an asset
- Interaction design experience including responsive web, mobile app, information architecture, etc
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including development, and providing guidelines and assets required for implementation
- Knowledge of facilitation, able to recommend ideation workshop activities and comfortable leading a room
- Experience utilizing user research and testing to inform design decisions. Ability to prepare for and run unbiased user interviews, and contribute to synthesizing results
- Thorough understanding of design patterns and best practices on mobile and web
- Interest in the connected home market and designing for products that may include voice and other non-screen-based user interactions
- Experience in animation and front-end development would be an asset
What the job involves
- As a member of our team, you will be responsible for helping define the user experience for ecobee’s corporate website
- You will collaborate closely with our development and product management teams as well as others in the company
- Design user experiences and user interfaces for ecobee’s corporate website with responsive design to handle iOS and Android mobile devices
- Collaborate closely with other designers, development teams, product management, and copywriters to recommend features, experiences, and UI implementations
- Plan and run open-ended user research to learn about customers’ needs, goals and lifestyles, as well as synthesize results
- Consider customer pain points while investigating solutions to design problems, and validate design decisions with usability testing
- Assist with facilitating design charrettes (ideation workshops) with team members from various areas of the company to gain insights and develop rough concepts to move forward with
- Be comfortable communicating ideas to a group of internal stakeholders, explaining rationale behind design decisions
