Role
Who you are
- BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience
- 2+ years of relevant cloud infrastructure/cloud networking experience
- Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development
- Experience building and operating large-scale systems in the Cloud
- Solid understanding of basic systems operations (disk, network, operating systems, etc)
- A self starter with the ability to work effectively in teams
- Proficiency in Java, Scala, C/C++, Go or other statically typed languages
Desirable
- Strong understanding of performance analysis methodologies, tools, and metrics. Experience with distributed systems, cloud environments, and performance analysis. Knowledge of Kafka would be highly beneficial
- In-depth familiarity with the JVM or any other memory management systems
- A strong background in distributed storage systems or databases
- Experience in the areas of resource management and QoS
- Experience/knowledge with public clouds (AWS, Azure or GCP)
- Interest in evangelism (giving talks at tech conferences, writing blog posts evangelizing Kafka)
- Experience working on databases or data storage
What the job involves
- We are a team of passionate engineers who love solving complex distributed systems and infrastructure problems. We are building Kora from the ground up to be a true managed service for clients who demand high levels of availability and performance at the lowest cost of ownership
- In this role, you'll focus on building Kora's highly available, reliable, secure, scalable, and multi-tenant compute layer.
- You'll be key to driving performance tuning and optimization for the Kora Compute Platform and related products. This includes identifying performance bottlenecks, creating performance testing strategies, and working with engineering teams to improve system performance.
- You'll also drive technical solutions end-to-end, collaborating with the team and stakeholders to design
- Platform Optimization: Develop strategies to optimize kafka performance for scalability, resilience, and high availability aligned with organizational goals
- Performance Tuning: Conduct analysis and tuning of our confluent Kafka offerings to meet the performance requirements under various loads
- Tooling: Build tools to measure key performance metrics, providing insights into efficiency and resource utilization
- Monitoring: Establish monitoring systems for metrics, proactively identifying and resolving performance issues in production
- Leadership: Lead and mentor performance engineers, offering guidance and support to ensure platform efficiency across deployments
Our take
Confluent is a commercial company built on top of the open-source Apache Kafka project. Confluent and Kafka have developed a streaming data technology that processes massive amounts of information in real-time.
The streaming database technology was developed at LinkedIn as a way of moving massive amounts of messages. The company decided to open-source that tech in 2011, and Confluent launched as the commercial arm in 2014.
While the base open-source component remains available for free download, it doesn’t include the additional tooling the company has built to make it easier for enterprises to use Kafka. Confluent's value add is in those additional tools, including a cloud version of the product and a marketplace for sharing extensions to the platform.
Confluent expanded strategic partnerships with Microsoft and acquired Immerok, and in 2023 expanded its cloud platform. 2024 saw further product expansions with the launch of the Confluent Migration Accelerator, all exemplifying how the company is living up to its name by rocket-boosting the benefits of Apache Kafka integration for companies.
