Role
Who you are
- We’re looking for a full-stack Software Engineer to join our Engineering team. The team is responsible for building every part of our product, covering the full spectrum from hosting infrastructure, database and API design and implementation, through to front-end applications, integrations and marketing resources
- 2-3 years of engineering experience or more, working on a customer-facing product in an agile environment
- A passion for writing high-quality code, and delivering great end-to-end experiences to end users
- Proficiency in modern JavaScript and NodeJS, including testing and debugging in both the browser and in a server environment
- Some hands-on experience in writing, designing and consuming APIs
- Some experience working with a modern front-end JavaScript framework (React, Vue, Angular, Svelte, etc.)
- Good familiarity with git as a version-control system
- A keen interest in the spectrum of software architecture from front-end to back-end, along with the APIs that glue them together
- The ability to clearly and concisely articulate complex technical problems
- Strong communication skills, matched by a desire and ability to work towards consensus with others
Desirable
- Knowledge about data modelling, data access, and data storage techniques
- GraphQL (we have grand plans for a new API to better serve our modern front-end rewrite)
- PostgreSQL
- BigQuery
- GitLab as a source-control and CI/CD/devops platform
- Any of our infrastructure services: Docker, Google Cloud Platform, Terraform
- Kubernetes, Helm, Prometheus, Grafana
- AngularJS (we're migrating away from this over the next few months)
- Svelte and SvelteKit (we're migrating towards this fantastic language and framework, so any experience would be a bonus)
What the job involves
- Develop features and improvements that drive the product forward
- Write your own integration and unit tests
- Pair with other engineers and proactively share high quality merge requests for review
- Collaborate with our engineers, product managers and designers to explore the challenges and opportunities available to the product
- Use your experience of full-stack engineering to craft intelligent solutions that include front-end client, and back-end systems
- Advocate for improvements to product quality, security, accessibility and performance
- Confidently ship features and improvements with minimal guidance and support from other team members
- Be a valued member of our agile engineering team, aiming to continuously optimise and iterate on the product opportunities that we prioritise
- Deliver testable, maintainable, and high-quality code, and take operational responsibility for the components that you develop
