Role
Who you are
- University’s degree in Electronical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- Proven experience (>5 years) in IoT development, firmware/software development, cloud integration and modeling
- Experiences in setting up cloud data infrastructure and data management
- Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in IoT applications, such as C/C++, Python, Java, or JavaScript
- Hands-on experience with sensor technologies and protocols (e.g., MQTT, Modbus, LoRaWAN), as well as IoT platforms (e.g., AWS IoT, Azure IoT, Google Cloud IoT)
- Created models or digital twins of industrial products with a chemical process at the core, ideally previous collaboration with process engineers
- Ideally experience with industrial products at container scale and hardware startups
- Experience in upward and downward management, team leadership and cross-sectional team constellations
- Fast learning and quick to grasp complex topics
- A team player with a hands-on mentality
- Authentic and reflective self
- Self-Organizer and structures workstyle to keep focus and get things done
- Good listener and effective communicator in cross-sectional team
- Curious and open-minded
- Valid Work Permit for Germany, or able to obtain a permit
What the job involves
- Connecting our hardware to the cloud to monitor process performance and enable an exponential data-driven learning curve
- We're seeking a skilled Senior Data Engineer to join our Berlin-based startup, focusing on enabling an exponential data-driven learning curve through a digital twin and empiric validation
- Operating in an agile environment, you'll enable drive data-driven improvements for a industrial hardware product with digital twin technology incl data management, modelling and sensor placement
- Ensuring a scalable data platform for real time tracking to ensure data-driven learning curve of a hardware industrial product based on a digital twin
- Designing a sensor system to observe relevant data and allow for monitoring, predictive maintenance and long term data storage incl documentation
- Drive the computational model together with our process engineer to develop a data-driven testing strategy to optimize our process
- Allocate budget for hardware and software components, manage external collaboration with academic or industrial partners and propose and align goals and work packages regarding IoT
- You will work on the biggest problem of our time, climate change, with the potential to impact the lives of billions of people
- Full responsibility to design your own workstream and control your working hours with a very high degree of freedom, flat hierarchy and teamwork

Our take
Climate change is a pressing issue, with CO2 being the major contributor to global warming. While reducing emissions is essential, removing CO2 from the atmosphere is also crucial. Direct Air Capture (DAC) technologies offer a promising solution to tackle this problem by extracting CO2 directly from the air.
Ucaneo is addressing this challenge with its DAC technology, which mimics the human lungs to capture CO2 using electricity and a special solvent at room temperature. This system is designed to be energy-efficient and compatible with renewable energy sources, making it adaptable and effective for large-scale CO2 removal.
Recently the company secured significant funding which will help it build a major DAC facility in Germany as well as develop its first industrial product. With this support, Ucaneo aims to capture 0.5 gigatons of CO2 by 2035, significantly contributing to the global CO2 reduction effort.
