Role
Who you are
- Experience with a public cloud (GCP, AWS, or Azure)
- Strong automation and scripting skills
- Experience with Terraform (or another IaC technology)
- Experiencing building and maintaining containerized applications
- Proficiency with Linux and command line tools
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work independently and in close collaboration with immediate team
- Ability to embed with and support cross-functional teams
- Experience working with the US Government (DoD specifically)

What the job involves
- The Cloud Platform team’s purpose is to empower software engineers, reduce unnecessary blockers, and increase our velocity to create exceptional products
- We do this by making software effortless to build, deploy, and manage. Using automation, shared libraries, and DevOps tools, we solve the common software problems so other engineers can focus on Gecko’s unique challenges
- This role will focus on evolving our cloud architecture and automation with a strong emphasis on our government cloud environment
- You will own the maintainability and usability of our government single-tenant deployments, which are complex and compliance-heavy by nature
- Your job is to absorb that complexity once, then abstract and automate it away so product engineers can deploy and operate confidently without becoming government-cloud experts themselves
- Be the visionary and owner of the strategies for maintaining and scaling our disparate single-tenant environments, which currently exist in Google Government Cloud and Azure, with potential expansion to AWS
- Abstract and automate the differences between our various cloud environments. You will ensure that developers don’t need to carry the cognitive load of each environment's specific compliance regulations and nuances
- Develop robust Infrastructure as Code (IaC) modules and shared libraries that benefit all environments, preventing work from being repeated
- Work closely with the other members of the Cloud Platform team to achieve our mission of making software at Gecko effortless to build, deploy, and manage. Areas currently owned by the team currently include:
- Cloud Subject Matter Experts and internal consultants
- Smooth, intuitive, automated CI/CD
- Customer authentication
- Permission management
- DevOps Tool optimization
- We use a variety of technologies. For managing infrastructure and deployments, we mostly use Terraform, GitHub Actions, and Docker
- Our cloud architecture is primarily serverless, stateless, and event-driven. Gecko primarily operates using Python, React, and Typescript

Our take
The critical services of energy, government, and other essential sectors depend on reliable infrastructure, and this is ensured through regular inspections. However, collecting the physical data required for infrastructural inspection is impossible without a variety of specialized equipment, and analyzing the produced data is a highly time-consuming process.
Gecko Robotics provides physical data handling for critical infrastructure inspections, leveraging robot-enabled ultrasonics and cloud-based data processing to serve power, oil and gas, pulp and paper, chemical, and government sectors. The company achieves this by pairing human NDT II/III inspectors with data capturing robots, facilitating the deployment of various advanced inspection techniques to meet any regulatory standards.
Whilst the use of robotic automation for infrastructural inspection is nothing new, Gecko Robotics stands out by offering its Toka robotics series, devices that are sufficiently flexible to collect data in many infrastructural scenarios. The company claims that this technology facilitates the collection of 1000 times more information than existing solutions at 10 times the speed.
Since receiving $73 million in Series C funding, Gecko has expanded its mission to "protect today's critical infrastructure and give shape to tomorrow's", taking on lucrative contracts with the US Navy.
