Role
Who you are
- Background in computer science
- 3 years of experience as a Data Engineer with a Python (OOP) stack
- You have been involved in gathering and defining requirements from internal stakeholders
- You have demonstrable experience with projects in a production environment
- You have experience with agile project management and project leadership
- You find your greatest satisfaction in helping your colleagues grow and develop
- You have strong SQL knowledge for Data Warehousing (BigQuery is a plus)
- Previous experience as a Data Analyst is a plus
- Business Level English and ideally Spanish or French
- But above all:
- You are eager to learn and constantly keep up with the latest technologies
- You have great communication skills, knowing that the best way to meet user needs (both internal and external) is to actively seek out information
- You enjoy sharing your findings and discussing best practices with the team
- Working with large volumes of data and on diverse challenges doesn't scare you!
- You are motivated by challenges and a drive for continuous improvement
- And if you know that:
- Airflow is not a temperature control system
- Python doesn't bite
- Amazon (AWS) isn't only for ordering flip-flops
- Google (GCP) is more than just a search engine

What the job involves
- As a Team Lead Data Engineer, you will be an integral part of the Data Engineering team. Owning and acting as the main point of reference for the evolution of our Data Engineering systems, ensuring they align with Papernest's overall infrastructure. you will also define business needs by acting as the primary point of contact for the SalesOps & Telephony teams, in collaboration with the Product team
- Mobilizing team resources and overseeing project management for your specific SalesOps & Telephony division
- Participating in the development of the quarterly roadmap based on the SalesOps & Telephony teams needs
- Performing daily reporting on the quality of all Papernest customer and internal data flow
- Maintaining and evolving the stack, which is based on Python/Airflow/Docker and hosted on AWS and BigQuery
- Ensuring the technical and functional development of our Data Engineering tools (ELT, Data Lineage, etc.) and our CI/CD pipeline
- Sharing knowledge about the needs and implemented solutions with audiences both inside and outside the Data Engineer team, particularly for business user

Our take
Papernest helps customers manage their utility bills and subscriptions via its online platform. It predominantly focuses on streamlining the administration involved in moving house, like changing or cancelling water bills and gym registrations, with an additional service that works like a more conventional price comparison site for utilities like internet and gas. It is providing a much-needed service in what's proven to be an interestingly narrow and non-competitive niche.
The company so far has been partnering with real estate agency referrals to bring new customers on board. So the boom in people changing homes over the last few years is likely to have played strongly in Papernest’s favour. It has leveraged a strategic partnership with open banking firm Tink, using the company’s broader European coverage to springboard into more geographies.
Papernest seems something of a rare find: a solution that neatly resolves a large and material problem, that’s proven hugely popular, and yet that hasn’t inspired a flurry of would-be competitors. With the housing market still relatively hot, and mid-term moves inspired by the growing digital-nomad lifestyle still on the rise, Papernest seem to be in a rosy position. If it gets too rosy though, it may have to watch its back.
