What the job involves

Building features and services that thousands of clients and solicitors rely on to access and deliver life-changing legal support
Working with the CTO and founding team to contribute to product direction, customer experience, architectural design and development processes
Working full-stack across our marketing sites (TypeScript - React, Next.JS) our platform (TypeScript - Nest.JS, GraphQL, React, CRA, Amplify) and productionising our machine learning research and services (Python)
Self-sufficiently taking problems and objectives and ideating and building their solutions
Making high-impact changes to production environments with confidence and a full understanding of our systems
Contributing to decisions on infrastructure (Terraform - AWS, GCP) to build secure, responsive and scalable services
Helping to define the domain model of the business, data schemas and data analysis procedures
Writing clean, maintainable code following best practices and fitting with the style of the codebase (event-driven, functional, DDD, TDD, CQRS)
Influencing the user experience and having a keen eye for usability and developing products that everybody can use
Working in an agile, supportive team with code reviews and disciplined quality control
Providing technical leadership to other team members and be a role model to more junior colleagues

Our take

Inequality in access to the law is one of the most pressing and important problems in society today. The current system for getting legal help is antiquated, slow, and expensive. Working with a solicitor or law firm is an offline experience and subject to a laborious and slow paper trail, and expensive hidden fees that prevent many people from ever getting fair and equal access to their legal rights.

Lawhive has built an online legal platform, allowing individuals and businesses to work with local firms and solicitors for a fraction of the cost of a local high-street law firm. Lawhive's platform combines licensed, human solicitors with machine learning to automate a lot of the more repetitive work. This reduces the cost of accessing legal help by up to 60% less than the average high-street law firm or local solicitor.

By radically lowering the cost of legal services, Lawhive aims to help everyone on the planet access legal help and to make access to the law a utility, in the same way that access to the financial system is a basic right.
