Role
Who you are
- 8+ years of experience in kernel device driver development
- Solid understanding of Linux kernel internals (memory management, concurrency/synchronization, DRM subsystem, device driver framework)
- Understanding of the Linux kernel open source development process and upstream contributions
- Familiarity with the ARM64 architecture
- Experience with git and follow good software practices like code review, documentation
- Effective interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
- Familiarity with system performance analysis, profiling, and tuning
Desirable
- Experience in pre-silicon and post-silicon validation device driver development
- Experience with PCIe drivers, DRM, DMA controllers
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Staff Kernel Developer in the Platform Silicon Software team to own the Linux device driver development for pre-silicon and post-silicon validation, custom chip and hardware bringup as well as building a high performance hardware acceleration stack across a wide variety of devices and systems
- Build Linux kernel device drivers to support pre-silicon and post-silicon validation, chip bringup and deploy across various products
- Own Architecture, development and design of Linux kernel drivers, user space libraries and applications for custom AI chips, focusing on GPU, Neural Network cores, ISP, encoders and decoders
- Bringup heterogeneous CPU cores and bringup of various evaluation platforms which use custom AI chips
- Architect system partitioning for performance using various hardware accelerator cores such as ISP, DSP and FPGA
- Develop high-performance system for data movement, I/O interfacing, networking and embedded signal processing
- Collaborate with colleagues across multiple teams and mentor developers

The taxi industry has seen dramatic changes through mobile vehicle-hailing apps such as Uber, but these services focus simply on ease-of-access to regular taxi services. The automotive industry has seen a vast range of innovations in recent years such as electric cars and self-driving capability, features that are currently not found in existing services.
Cruise brings self-driving autonomy and electric cars together into a taxi-hailing mobile application. In addition to these innovations, the service focuses on efficiency through ride-sharing as opposed to each ride providing a single trip. Whilst other taxi-hailing services will inevitably turn to electric self-driving vehicles, Cruise shows potential to stand out through its AI-fuelled focus on carpooling and fleet efficiency.
Cruise, which has been acquired by General Motors, has received an inordinate amount of funding, including from Honda and Microsoft, with Softbank investing over $2B to scale its technology. A sum of this came after Cruise launched a limited driverless robotaxi service to the public in San Francisco. However, the company is now facing lawsuits from the city to limit its operations there after a series of accidents involving Cruise's vehicles.
