Who you are
- 5+ years of software engineering experience
- Strong technical skills and are an excellent collaborator
- You like solving for ambiguity - we’ll look to you for ideas on how to solve problems
- You implement systems large or small that are clear, maintainable, and correct
- You are excited by opportunities to both break ground on new projects and provide fresh perspective onto past implementations
- You want to build and own your work end-to-end
- You are eager to move fast, but recognize when to build for the future
- Top notch communication skills. You can communicate well with engineers as well as non-engineers
- Industry experience developing scalable, production quality backend systems
- A desire to work with JavaScript or TypeScript
Desirable
- Experience architecting complex SaaS products with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and microservices
- Familiarity with our tech stack - Node.js, React.js, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, AWS
- Strong knowledge of TypeScript
- Past experience working with cloud technologies such as AWS or Microsoft Azure
- 401k or finance tech background
- Self-driven and willing to learn
- Proficiency with Git as a version control system

- The Portfolio Management team is responsible for the software system that manages each participant's retirement strategy
- We seek to offer participants a wide set of investment options while building an effortless experience
- Our offerings will enable participants to balance market risk versus reward with the ultimate goal of reaching their target savings and financial security at the time of retirement
- Our products and solutions provide an investment experience that is accurate, timely, secure, auditable, scalable, and allows HIA and Plan Admins to maintain their fiduciary duty
- Our team regularly undertakes projects that are critical to the company's success, often ranking as a top company goal
- We are excited to be growing our team in 2024 to seize new and exciting business opportunities. In 2024 and beyond we will develop new products, features, and services from scratch that cater to a new set of partners and unlock new business opportunities
- We are one of the teams contributing to offerings that will provide significant new growth for the company
- Collaborate with product managers and engineers to define technical requirements on the new user experience workflows
- Design, build, and maintain our user experiences for both external and internal customers
- Implement front end User Interfaces in ReactJS
- Implement changes in back end Rest and GraphQL APIs in Node.js
- Make changes to existing backend services, workflows and front end User Interfaces to create a seamless experience
- Write clean, high-quality code and tests to keep our system fast, reliable, and easy to maintain
- Create adequate test cases, write tests to ensure full functionality
- Collaborate with other engineers and stakeholders to share knowledge and build expertise
- Contribute to our evolving engineering standards, tooling, and processes
Our take
Human Interest is a company offering 401(k) for small and medium-sized businesses (SMB). SMBs have historically been unable to afford benefits for employees, leaving around 40 million Americans without a retirement plan. Human Interest is helping to change this with its platform that has eliminated all 401(k) transaction fees.
The company has seen strong adoption from businesses that have not previously had retirement benefits, including construction, retail, and hospitality - making waves in its target market. Its successes so far have allowed Human Interest to sharpen its competitive edge against similar companies such as Guideline.
With a series of substantial funding rounds under its belt, the company is looking to expand its network of integrations and partnerships with financial advisers, benefits brokers, and payroll companies, as well as hiring additional talent across various teams. Human Interest has also stated that it is eyeing a possible IPO for sometime in the near future.
